Online Teaching Principles Capstone

My name is Michelle Boucher and I am an instructor for one of the many community colleges in California. I began teaching online over four years ago with only a short course through my campus and some support from a colleague. For me, teaching online helped to balance the shared governance my position requires. However, it was not as rewarding or engaging as teaching in the classroom. I sought new ways to do things, but really stumbled around without much improvement. After just a few years, I realized some of my practices were already a bit antiquated. My online courses were lacking the emotional rewards and I already needed to improve how I presented the content. I sought professional development and found @One courses. Over the last year, I have completed many of these courses to improve my online teaching practices and bring my skills sets up to date. In the midst of this, I have also found an improved connection to my online students. This has made my online courses much more rewarding. This website is a capstone project to allow me to reflect on my practices as an online instructor both before and after the completion of these courses. I hope this can help you hone your craft and connect with your online students in a deeper and more meaningful way.
