Scientific and technical coordinator, EU Horizon 2020 research and innovation project MARVEL; 2021-2023 (https://www.marvel-project.eu/) I have been working as the scientific and technical coordinator of MARVEL. This project aspires the convergence of a set of technologies in the areas of AI, analytics, multimodal perception, software engineering, HPC as part of an Edge-Fog-Cloud Computing Continuum paradigm for smart city environments. I coordinate scientific and technical work across the project work packages; have lead the definition of the system conceptual architecture; and have led machine learning developments for the project’s use cases, including federated learning solutions for audio-visual crowd counting in smart cities. The project has 15 innovations recognized by the EU Innovation radar.
Work package leader, EU Horizon Europe research and innovation project TaRDIS: 2023-2025: I have worked as the leader of the TaRDIS project’s work package (WP5) on federated and distributed machine learning. TaRDIS focuses on supporting the correct and efficient development of applications for swarms and decentralised distributed systems, by combining a novel programming paradigm with a toolbox for supporting the development and executing of applications. In the context of WP5, I have coordinated the efforts towards providing machine learning models for the project’s use cases, as well as on the development of federated learning toolbox of the TaRDIS framework.
