Welcome to this powerful 12-part teaching series on How to Write a Christian Book and Content. In this first article, we begin with what I consider the most important foundation of all: understanding the divine mandate behind Christian writing. It is my joy and honor to share not only biblical truths but also draw from over four decades of personal experience in the writing ministry. My wife and I have, by the grace of God, written and published over 40 Christian books in English, French, and German, distributed worldwide and read by believers in many nations. What you’re about to read is not theory—it is a spiritual practice that has worked, touched lives, and continues to bear fruit today.

Let us now explore why Christian writing matters, how it is rooted in Scripture, and how it serves as an act of obedience and spiritual legacy.

Why Christian Writing Matters

Christian writing is not just another form of communication—it is a divine assignment. God is still speaking, and one of the most effective ways He speaks to generations is through the written word. Writing for the Kingdom is a tool to teach, instruct, rebuke, comfort, and evangelize. It carries the weight of eternity because when you write by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, your words can outlive you and impact souls long after you are gone.

The world is flooded with content, philosophies, and ideologies that subtly or overtly fight biblical truth. As Christian writers, we have been positioned by God to push back against darkness with light—not just in the pulpit, but in print. A book can go where you may never step. A tract, an article, or even a well-crafted social media post can minister to a soul at the point of need.

I recall how a simple 32-page booklet we wrote in French was once read by a missionary in Benin Republic, who later testified that it helped him recover from discouragement and strengthened him to return to his calling. That’s the power of writing under the anointing.

Books do not need visas. They can travel into nations where preachers are not allowed. They can sit on shelves for decades, waiting for the right reader at the right moment. This is why Christian writing is not just helpful—it is vital.

The Biblical Basis for Writing Ministry

Many believers assume that preaching from the pulpit is the primary way God communicates truth. While that is true, it is not complete. Scripture clearly reveals that writing is a major channel through which God delivers His Word.

Let’s examine a few examples:

From Genesis to Revelation, writing has always been a key method for preserving and propagating divine truth. Jesus Himself quoted from written Scripture when confronting the devil in the wilderness: “It is written…” (Matthew 4:4-10). The Bible we read today is the result of obedient men who wrote under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.

Christian writing is therefore not an invention of modern ministry. It is an extension of the ancient and prophetic ministry of the Word.

Writing as Obedience to God

In the early years of my ministry, I was more focused on preaching and church planting. But one day, during an extended time of prayer and fasting, the Lord spoke to my heart clearly: “Put the vision in writing. Let it run ahead of you.” That word changed everything.

Writing became an act of obedience. There were seasons I didn’t feel like writing, but I knew I was under divine instruction to document what the Lord was revealing. Sometimes I wrote while traveling between crusades. Other times, I wrote in prayer retreats, trusting the Holy Spirit for each chapter. Some books flowed easily, others came slowly. But each one was an assignment.

Writing is not about being talented with words. It is about being faithful with the message. It is about putting down what God puts in your spirit, even when no one is clapping or paying attention. Writing for God is sowing into the unseen. The results may come later, but they will surely come.

Let me tell you plainly—if God has put a message in your heart, He expects you to write it down. Don’t delay. Don’t disqualify yourself. Don’t say, “I’m not a professional writer.” God qualifies those He calls. He gives grace and wisdom when we yield to His instructions.

Writing as a Spiritual Legacy

We live in an age where memories fade, voices are forgotten, and social media posts are easily lost in the noise. But books remain. They are lasting. They can pass from generation to generation. They can shape minds, influence nations, and preserve revelations.

Consider this: Most of what we know about early Church doctrine, spiritual gifts, the fruit of the Spirit, and divine order comes not from oral tradition, but from the written epistles of Paul, Peter, James, and John. Those letters, written under unction, are still equipping the saints over two thousand years later.

Your writing can do the same.

I have met young ministers who told me they were called into ministry after reading one of my small booklets. Others have translated our works into native dialects to reach rural areas we may never visit. That is the power of writing as legacy.

As you write, you are storing spiritual treasure. You are building a library that can disciple your children, your community, and your nation. Even when your voice is silent, your words will still speak.

“The Lord gave the word: great was the company of those that published it.” – Psalm 68:11

Conclusion: Answer the Call

Writing a Christian book is not just about putting words on paper. It is about obeying the divine mandate to proclaim truth, equip the saints, and disciple nations through the written word.

God is calling many to rise up as scribes, authors, bloggers, and content creators—not for fame, but for impact. Will you answer the call?

In the next article, we’ll explore “Knowing Your Purpose and Audience”—how to define your message, identify who you’re writing to, and sharpen your focus as a Christian author.

Until then, remember: You have something to write. And someone is waiting to read it.
