I was just trying this. You should make sure that you have the .mtl file right by the .obj file when opening it in procreate. The only problem I have had so far is that when you open a cleanly made rhino object in procreate, it creates holes in areas close to edges, such as where it is filleted. I should try what Ben said above to see if it is still going to be the same.

The above image was with a displacement map generated in Verve painter for Windows and applied in Blender. I would like to keep to Procreate, and I don't have a windows computer but a Mac and just an iPad. Any displacement map generation techniques would be greatly appreciated!

Is there a way to paint impasto easily in Blender or generate it? My displacement map generation process is hazy right now and could use some help because it does not look like the image linked above. Any other software suggestions are welcome too.

We can think of masking in Procreate like masking tape. If you are painting a blank canvas, and you cover part of that canvas with masking tape before painting, a blank canvas will be revealed again when you pull off the masking tape.

I mean Procreate will be probably one of the top 2 choices to use for this kind of work. Substance painter is the other at the lead probably. Behind them you will have PS with 3D layers and the Cubism plugin.

Thing is Krita has the potential use libraries that make this so much easier to implement and use what it already has. importing models rendering and all that. the only thing that will be troubling with be projecting paint onto the surface that I imagine will be like a temporary UV set to the camera, and after that is almost free just needing to export some pngs.

Regardless textures should not be painted on textures with weird lights applied to them. So fancy materials are detrimental. Because if you change the light condition you might have a really bad surprise and not be able to calibrate because of crunched information as you require that light setup and that is not the spirit of PBR.

The recent explosion of websites that create artwork generated by Artificial Intelligence has opened up many new questions from artists about copyright related to AI artwork. One interesting idea that I saw demonstrated was from an artist who used AI pictures from Midjourney to inspire a painting that she created in Procreate. I decided to do my own experiment using some AI generated pictures to create my own painting of a fox.
