Introductions - When you introduce yourself, always include your:
Name (Dr. ____)
Role (Fellow, Resident, Medical Student)
Attending (who is your supervisor, working closely with you on the procedure. If they are immediately visible, please point to them as well.
Make sure your ID is always visible, above the waist. This is a JCHAO requirement, and also helpful to make sure all roles are clear
You can choose how to address your patients. Some people always say Mr/Ms/Mrs <Last Name>, some address the patients by their first name., others ask the patient (which you should probably do if you choose the first name route>. Go with whatever style is comfortable with you, adjusting if the patient expresses a specific desire.
Working Environment -
On your first day, introduce yourself to the technologist, and learn his or her name.
Running the procedure rooms are a team effort. The technologist has a lot to do in between cases, so help out in whatever way you can! This may include:
Getting the patient from the waiting room and changing the patient (always double check the patient's allergies!)
Setting up the tray
Turning over the bed
Anything that is needed!
