How We Research
We compare products from their published specs and features; the verdicts below are our independent editorial opinions.
If you want a hard travel case that lets your AirPods Max drop into sleep mode on their own, choose ProCase AirPods Max; if you need a slim, transparent skin that keeps the headphones themselves scratch-free while you wear them, choose Maxjoy AirPods Max Case.
• ProCase AirPods Max — biggest strength: a rigid EVA shell with a clear PVC front panel, soft shockproof bubble padding, and sleep-mode support, so the headphones are protected and visible while stored.
• ProCase AirPods Max — biggest trade-off: it is a storage case only. It does nothing for the headphones while you are actually wearing them, and the headphones themselves are not included.
• Maxjoy AirPods Max Case — biggest strength: a 3-in-1 silicone and clear TPU cover set for the ear cups, headband and earpads that stays on the headphones during use, with waterproof and sweatproof protection.
• Maxjoy AirPods Max Case — biggest trade-off: it is a soft cover, not a hard shell. It guards against scratches, dust and sweat, not against a hard drop onto concrete.
• Who each pick is for: ProCase for people who carry their AirPods Max around in a bag or luggage; Maxjoy for people who wear theirs constantly and want on-body protection, especially in the gym.
ProCase AirPods Max is a storage-first product, and it is built around one specific job: getting the headphones into sleep mode without needing Apple's own smart case. That is the feature that matters most here. If you own AirPods Max, you already know the battery behaviour revolves around that case, so a third-party case that still triggers sleep mode is genuinely useful rather than a gimmick.
The construction backs that up. The outside is hard EVA, which is a stiff, shape-holding material, and the inside uses soft shockproof bubble padding. In practice that combination is what protects against the realistic threats to a pair of headphones living in a backpack: keys pressing into the ear cups, a bag getting set down hard, a spilled drink in the same compartment. There is also a clear PVC front cover, so you can see the headphones without unzipping anything. Rated dimensions are 9.25 x 8.86 x 2.76 inches, so it is a flat, compact slab rather than a bulky cube, and the hand strap plus smooth zipper make it easy to pull out of luggage. It is also listed as water resistant and dust resistant.
Maxjoy AirPods Max Case: Who It's For
Maxjoy AirPods Max Case approaches protection from the opposite direction. Instead of a box you put the headphones into, it is a cover set you put onto the headphones. You get a silicone headband cover, a pair of clear TPU ear cup covers, and silicone earpad covers, which is why it is described as a 3-in-1 kit. The materials are silicone and thermoplastic polyurethane, both soft and lightweight, with a smooth touch and an anti-fingerprint finish that is easy to wipe clean.
The pitch is accuracy of fit. The covers are cut to sit snugly on the AirPods Max without adding bulk, with precise cutouts so charging still works normally. Crucially, Maxjoy states the headphones will still enter sleep mode when stored in their smart case with the covers on, so you are not forced to strip the kit every time you put them away. Protection covers drops, dust, dirt, scratches and shock, and it is listed as both waterproof and sweatproof. That last point is the real story: if you sweat in your headphones at the gym or on a run, the earpad covers are the part that keeps perspiration out of the cushions, which is a wear point most people only notice once the pads are already grimy.
Who should buy it: gym users, runners, commuters, anyone who wears AirPods Max for hours and wants the headband and ear cups to stay looking new. Who should skip it: if you want a hard case for throwing the headphones in a suitcase, this is not that product. It is also a cover set, not a container, and the headphones are not included.

• Best for visibility → ProCase AirPods Max. The clear PVC front panel lets you see the headphones while they are stored.
• Best for minimal bulk → Maxjoy AirPods Max Case. It is designed to add no bulk and stay snug on the headphones.
• Best for a complete kit → Maxjoy AirPods Max Case. Headband cover, ear cup covers and earpad covers all arrive together.
My Verdict
In my opinion, ProCase AirPods Max is the one I would buy first, because the single biggest risk to a pair of AirPods Max is being crushed or scratched inside a bag, and a hard EVA shell with bubble padding addresses that directly while still triggering sleep mode. That said, I would genuinely consider adding the Maxjoy kit alongside it if I wore my headphones to the gym, since sweat on the earpads is a slow, quiet problem that a travel case never solves. If you only ever pick one: hard case for carry, soft covers for wear. Check the current price on Amazon before deciding, since the value math changes with whatever each one is going for.
what is transparency mode in headphones
Transparency mode lets outside sound pass through the headphones' microphones and into your ears, so you can hear traffic, announcements or a conversation without removing them. It is the opposite of noise cancelling, which blocks that outside sound instead. Both cases here are accessories only and do not change how transparency mode works on your AirPods Max.
how to turn off transparency mode headphones
On AirPods Max you switch modes with the noise control button on the right ear cup, cycling between noise cancellation, transparency and off. You can also change it from the control centre on a paired iPhone, iPad or Mac. The covers in either product do not interfere with that button, since both are designed around the headphones' existing controls and cutouts.
what's transparency mode headphones
It is the feature that pipes ambient sound in through the microphones so you stay aware of your surroundings while still wearing the headphones. People use it for walking, cycling, commuting and quick chats. Neither ProCase AirPods Max nor Maxjoy AirPods Max Case affects the microphones or that mode, they only protect the hardware.
which one protects better, a hard case or a soft cover
They protect against different things. ProCase AirPods Max uses a hard EVA shell with shockproof bubble padding, which is the better answer to drops and pressure inside a bag. Maxjoy AirPods Max Case uses soft silicone and clear TPU, which is the better answer to sweat, dust, dirt and scratches during everyday wear. In my opinion they are complements, not competitors.
