Overall Thoughts:
Sports Research (SR) was unfamiliar to me until I received their Daily Probiotics 60 Billion CFU delayed release mix for men and women.
This probiotic was originally discovered on Amazon because it is well-liked and highly rated.
Through thorough investigation and experience, I've discovered that many of these popular products are from dubious, fly-by-night companies that don't truly exist anywhere and engage in dubious tactics and sell one-off items.
I was relieved to discover that they have a real website, a corporation, and a variety of different things.
However, they appear to make extensive use of Amazon, with SR Daily Probiotics 60 Billion CFU now receiving 4.7 out of 5 stars and 307 ratings.
On the other hand, they only have 6 reviews on their website (all 5 stars of course).
*From yours truly, a quick rant and word of caution...
I only ask that everyone be aware of their ratings and complete their tasks whenever possible.
When you look at their Amazon reviews, you'll notice that nearly every single one is a sparkling 5 star (impressive and hard to do). There are also a few 1-4 star reviews strewn about.
Their Amazon page was formerly rated a "C" (poor) on the fakespot review grade analyzer, however it has now been upgraded to a "A" when the pricing changed. So something isn't quite right.
Last but not least, there is a sticker promotion on the bottle that gives a free product if you rate and review the probiotic favorably (which is most likely the source of all the perfect 5-star reviews).
Okay, enough of my ranting; let's get back to the point of this probiotic!
Daily Probiotics 60 Billion CFU is quite identical to Physician's Choice 60 Billion Probiotic, which I observed really immediately (right down to the packaging and capsules). You can read my review of that one here, but suffice it to say it's on my naughty list.
The similarities continued as they both received low ratings in my book, and I gave this probiotic a dismal 1.5 out of 5 star rating.
One of my main concerns with this probiotic is the number of probiotics and CFU it contains. There are just too many of each, and adding more is neither better nor useful in this case.
They also don't include any prebiotic fibers, which are usually found in solid probiotics and act as a fertilizer for beneficial bacteria.
"Refrigeration is not required, but strongly advised," according to the bottle, as is protecting the product from severe heat, freezing, humidity, and light. These probiotics were not refrigerated during the shipping process, which is unfortunate. I prefer shelf-stable probiotics since they are more durable and often contain more active components.
That being said, I have a strong suspicion that my probiotics included no viable, living bacteria.
I didn't have any initial adverse effects (which is normal with strong formulae like this), and I experienced no improvement in my digestive difficulties or IBS symptoms.
In comparison to the usual probiotic, these probiotics are also more expensive.
Finally, the capsules are larger and have a habit of getting trapped in my throat.
The daily capsules must also be taken with food.
Overall, this probiotic was a dud for me, and the only reason I didn't give it a one-star rating was because it didn't produce any negative side effects.
The Specifics:
Profile of Ingredients and Strains
Sports Research Daily Probiotics includes 60 Billion CFU and 12 Lacto & Bifido probiotic strains, as the name suggests.
I'd like to point out that supplements like this that jam a ton of strains and CFU in aren't always ideal or even useful.
These super-potent probiotics can be too good to be true, resulting in bad results.
These high levels of CFU and various probiotics might sometimes compete with one other and other beneficial bacteria.
And it can occasionally have unfavorable consequences.
I also wish SR had identified the individual strains used rather than just the name and species.
However, of the (many) probiotics utilized, I prefer Lactobacillus plantarum.
This probiotic species is recognized for helping to maintain a healthy balance of good and bad bacteria in the body. It’s also a good aid in helping you stay more regular with bowel movements.
It also aids in the relief of unpleasant IBS symptoms as well as the reduction of painful gas and bloating.
Lactococcus lactis subsp. lactis is another probiotic that is employed (L. lactis for short).
L. lactis has been proven in several trials to help with skin health, immunological function, IBD, and allergies.
I find it strange that they include so many different probiotics but no prebiotic fiber (which acts as a food supply for the friendly bacteria). When I'm looking for good probiotic candidates, I prefer to see that.
Allergy Issues
This probiotic does not include any major allergens.
It does include potato starch, which some of you may want to be aware of.
Gluten, dairy, gelatin, and GMOs are all absent from the veggie caps.
It's vegan-certified, quality-tested by a third party, and Non-GMO Project Verified.
Non-GMO Potato Starch, Delayed Release Veggie Capsule (Hypromellose, Gellan Gum, Purified Water), L-Leucine, Silicon Dioxide are among the other constituents.
Consequences
To my amazement, this probiotic had no negative side effects for me.
That's because it's really strong, and I usually have some adverse effects within the first week or two.
For my terrible IBS symptoms, as well as seasonal and dietary allergies, I rely heavily on probiotics.
I could tell they weren't working when I tried them at home, and my symptoms didn't go away.
When this happens, I assume the probiotic bacteria aren't alive or active, which is a tremendous letdown.
Maybe I just got a bad batch, but if you're new to probiotics or have a sensitive stomach, be cautious because they are designed to be powerful.
