Summer School 29/07/24-04/08/24 @Nesin Mathematics Village

Why?  The aim of the school is to introduce four topics in modern probability theory through four self-contained courses (see below) providing the necessary background on bachelor’s / master’s level and introducing related directions of research in the respective fields.

Where and when?  The school is hosted by Nesin Mathematics Village in Turkey, from 29/07/24 to 04/08/24. Beware:

-Students stay in shared dormitories or tents.

-The Village is a non-profit organisation hence everyone is supposed to contribute to some simple tasks such as distributing food, doing dishes or cleaning common areas. For other rules regarding the venue, please see the menu on the left.

Who can apply?  Graduate students and advanced bachelor's students with a particular interest in probability theory are invited to apply. The priority will be given to students coming from Turkey and neighboring countries. The number of participants are limited to 30, so please do not hesitate to explain your motivation in the application form. Application is open until 31/05/2024.

How much does it cost / Can I ask for funding?  There is no registration fee for the school. For accommodation, the fees of the village apply (prices for 2024 summer will soon be announced). The school is partially funded by AESIM and FMJH, hence we expect to cover the accommodation and/or traveling expenses of some of the students.

COURSES (see the menu for abstracts)

Random walks and electrical networks by Eleanor Archer (Université Paris-Nanterre)

An invitation to random assignment problems by Matteo D’Achille (Université Paris-Saclay)

Random Tilings by Paul Melotti (Université Paris-Saclay)

Introduction to Galton-Watson trees and their local limits by Meltem Unel (Université Paris-Saclay)

Bonus: An advanced probability course will be taught in the village by Şefika Kuzgun the week before (22-27 July) which is a good opportunity for constructing the basis for the school. The application should be done separately through village's website.
