# Privacy Policy for ProofBit
**Last updated:** October 1, 2026
ProofBit ("we", "our", or "the app") is a dedicated offline file-integrity verification utility for Android developed by HolyMollyDevs. ProofBit is built on a strict privacy-first foundation: cryptographic calculations are performed locally on your device, and no user files or personal data are ever uploaded, collected, or transmitted to remote servers.
---
## 1. Information the Application Accesses
### Selected Files
When you intentionally choose to verify a file via Android's system document picker (`expo-document-picker`), ProofBit accesses only that specific file URI in local device memory.
- The file is read incrementally in memory chunks solely to compute cryptographic fingerprints (such as SHA-256, SHA-1, or MD5).
- File contents are never uploaded to any remote server or third-party service.
- The app does not scan device storage, monitor download directories, or inspect other applications.
### Clipboard
ProofBit accesses your clipboard only when you explicitly tap the "Paste" button to input an expected checksum or text string. ProofBit does not run background clipboard listeners or collect clipboard history.
---
## 2. Information We Do Not Collect
ProofBit does not collect, sell, or share any personal information. Specifically:
- **No User Accounts:** No sign-up, email registration, login, or user profiles.
- **No Remote Servers or APIs:** All hash computation happens 100% on your device.
- **No Analytics or Telemetry:** No analytics SDKs, session recording, or third-party tracking scripts.
- **No Advertising:** ProofBit contains zero advertisements and accesses no advertising identifiers (AD_ID).
- **No Location Data:** ProofBit does not request GPS, network location, or Wi-Fi scanning permissions.
- **No Device Identifiers:** The app does not collect IMEI, MAC addresses, or hardware serial numbers.
---
## 3. Local History and On-Device Storage
If you choose to retain a history of verified files, ProofBit stores a maximum of 20 metadata-only entries on your device's local storage:
- File name
- File size
- Calculated cryptographic fingerprint
- Timestamp
- Verification status (match/mismatch/unverified)
**ProofBit never stores file contents or duplicates files in history.** You can permanently delete this local history at any time using the "Clear History" button within the app.
---
## 4. User-Directed Sharing
When you tap "Share" or "Copy", ProofBit formats a plain text verification summary. Sharing is entirely user-initiated and handled through Android's native system share sheet. You choose the destination application or recipient. ProofBit transmits nothing automatically.
---
## 5. Android Permissions
ProofBit is designed with **zero required runtime permissions**.
- No `READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE` or `WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE`
- No `READ_MEDIA_IMAGES`, `READ_MEDIA_VIDEO`, or `READ_MEDIA_AUDIO`
- No `CAMERA` or `RECORD_AUDIO`
- No `ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION` or `ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION`
- No `POST_NOTIFICATIONS`
File selection is delegated entirely to the Android Storage Access Framework (SAF) document picker.
---
## 6. Children's Privacy
ProofBit does not collect any personal information from anyone, including children under the age of 13.
---
## 7. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected within this document and updated inside the application.
