The short version: Your documents stay on your phone. Scanning, PDF creation, editing and reading all happen locally on your device — we do not upload, read, store or transmit your files, images or scanned pages to any server. What we do collect is limited technical and advertising data used to keep the app running and to show ads, described in full below.
This Privacy Policy explains how QR Code Expert – Barcode Master ("we", "us", "the Developer") handles information in connection with the mobile application PDF Scanner & Reader: Docscan ("the App"). The App is offered free of charge and is supported by advertising.
By downloading or using the App, you agree to this Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
1. Information We Do Not Collect
We want to be explicit about this first, because it is the category users care about most:
Your documents and scans. Documents you scan, images you convert, and PDFs you open, create, merge, split, rename or edit are processed entirely on your device. They are never uploaded to us or to any third party.
Camera content. Camera frames are used only to capture the page you are scanning, on-device. No camera image is transmitted off your device by the App.
File contents and file names. We do not read, index, copy or transmit the contents or names of files stored on your device.
Precise location. The App does not request or collect GPS or precise location data.
Accounts and identity. The App requires no sign-up, no account, no email address, no phone number, and no contact list access.
2. Information Collected Automatically
When you use the App, limited technical and advertising information is collected automatically by us and by the third-party services listed in Section 5:
Advertising identifier (Google Advertising ID) — used for serving ads, frequency capping, measuring ad performance, and, where you have consented, personalising ads.
Device and technical information — device model, operating system version, language, region, screen and network type, and app version, used for compatibility, crash diagnosis, and delivering correctly sized ad formats.
IP address — used to determine approximate (country or region level) location for ad delivery, fraud prevention and legal compliance. We do not use it to determine your precise location.
App usage and interaction events — screens opened, features used, session length, ad impressions and clicks, used to understand which features are used, improve the App, and measure advertising.
Crash and diagnostic logs — used to detect, reproduce and fix stability problems.
This data is aggregated and pseudonymous. It is not linked to your name, and it is not used to identify you personally.
3. Device Permissions and Why We Ask for Them
Android permissions are requested only when a feature needs them, and you can decline or later revoke any of them in your device settings. Declining a permission disables only the related feature; the rest of the App continues to work.
Camera (android.permission.CAMERA)
To capture documents, books, receipts and images with your device camera so they can be converted into PDF files. Used only while you are actively scanning.
Photos and media access (READ_MEDIA_IMAGES / READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE)
To let you select existing images from your gallery for image-to-PDF conversion.
Storage write access (WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE, Android 9 and below)
To save the PDF files you create into your chosen folder on the device.
All files access (MANAGE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE)
The App's core purpose is document management: locating, opening, renaming, moving, sharing and deleting PDF files wherever they are stored on your device, including files created by other apps. Android's scoped storage does not allow this across arbitrary folders. Access is used solely to display and manage document files at your instruction. We do not scan, catalogue or transmit unrelated files, and no file data ever leaves your device.
Internet and network state (INTERNET / ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE)
To load advertisements, check connectivity before making a network request, and send anonymous crash and usage statistics.
Advertising ID (com.google.android.gms.permission.AD_ID)
To deliver and measure advertising, as described in Sections 2 and 4.
Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS, Android 13 and above)
To show optional in-app notifications such as scan or export completion. You may deny or turn these off at any time.
4. Advertising
The App is free and displays advertising through Google AdMob and its mediation partners.
Personalised advertising and consent
Advertising partners may use your advertising identifier and app usage signals to show ads relevant to your interests, and to measure whether those ads worked.
If you are located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, the App presents a consent message (Google's User Messaging Platform, in accordance with the IAB Transparency and Consent Framework) before any personalised advertising or non-essential data processing takes place. You may accept, refuse, or change your choice at any time from the App's settings or privacy option. Refusing consent does not stop you from using the App — you will simply see non-personalised ads.
How to limit ad tracking
On Android: Settings → Google → Ads → Delete advertising ID, or Opt out of Ads Personalisation.
Adjust your Google ad settings at https://adssettings.google.com
Revisit the consent message from the App's privacy settings (EEA, UK and Switzerland users).
5. Third-Party Services
The App integrates the following third-party services, each of which processes data under its own privacy policy:
Google Play Services — core platform services and app integrity. https://policies.google.com/privacy

Google Analytics for Firebase — anonymous usage analytics. https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with data brokers.
6. How Information Is Used
To operate, maintain and improve the App's features.
To display advertising and measure its performance, which funds the free version of the App.
To diagnose crashes, performance problems and compatibility issues.
To detect, prevent and investigate fraud, abuse, or security incidents.
To comply with applicable law and respond to lawful requests from authorities.
Legal bases (EEA and UK users)
We process data on the basis of your consent (personalised advertising and non-essential analytics), our legitimate interests (security, fraud prevention, aggregate stability and usage measurement), and legal obligation where the law requires disclosure.
7. Sharing and Disclosure
Automatically collected information may be shared only:
with the service providers named in Section 5, acting on our behalf under their own privacy commitments;
where required by law, court order, subpoena or a valid governmental request;
where necessary in good faith to protect the rights, property or safety of users, the public or the Developer, or to investigate fraud;
in connection with a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, in which case you will be notified through an update to this Policy.
8. Data Retention and Deletion
On-device data. Your scans and PDF files stay on your device under your control. You can delete any file inside the App, or uninstall the App to remove its data from your device. Because we never receive these files, we cannot delete them for you.
Analytics and advertising data. Retained by our service providers only as long as needed for the purposes described above, and in line with their published retention periods. Firebase Analytics data is retained for a maximum of 14 months; crash reports are retained for up to 90 days.
Your deletion request. To request deletion of any data associated with your device or advertising identifier, email qr.codes.expert@gmail.com with the subject line "Data Deletion Request — Docscan". Include your device model and, if available, your advertising ID. We respond within 30 days.
9. Your Privacy Rights
EEA, UK and Switzerland (GDPR)
You have the right to access, correct, delete or restrict processing of your personal data, to object to processing based on legitimate interests, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.
California (CCPA and CPRA)
You have the right to know what personal information is collected and for what purpose, to request its deletion, to correct inaccurate information, and to opt out of the sharing of personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising. We do not sell personal information. To exercise the opt-out, refuse personalised ads within the App or disable your advertising ID as described in Section 4. We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.
Other jurisdictions
If your local law grants comparable rights, we will honour valid requests. Contact us using the details in Section 13.
10. Security
Because documents are processed on-device, the most sensitive data never travels over a network. For the limited data that is transmitted, we and our service providers use industry-standard measures including encryption in transit (TLS/HTTPS) and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Protecting your device with a screen lock and keeping the App updated adds meaningful protection.
11. International Data Transfers
Our service providers operate globally and may process data in countries other than yours, including the United States. Where data originating in the EEA or UK is transferred abroad, our providers rely on approved safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
12. Children's Privacy
The App is a general-purpose productivity tool and is not directed to children under 13, or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected such information, we will delete it promptly. Parents or guardians who believe a child has provided personal information may contact us at qr.codes.expert@gmail.com and we will act without undue delay.

14. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy to reflect changes to the App, our service providers, or applicable law. The revised version will be posted on this page with a new "Last updated" date. Material changes will additionally be communicated in the App where reasonably practicable. Continued use of the App after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy.
