What’s Near Me? (also called Neighborhood Lens) helps you discover interesting nearby places using public data from Wikipedia. We respect your privacy. This policy explains what data is collected, how it’s used, and your choices.
We don’t run our own backend servers and we don’t create user accounts. Data is collected only by your device and our service providers as needed to run the app.
Location (precise GPS, while the app is in use):
Used to find nearby points of interest. Your coordinates are sent directly from your device to the Wikipedia API to perform the search. We do not store your location ourselves. Wikipedia (Wikimedia Foundation) receives the request and handles it under their terms.
Analytics (Firebase Analytics by Google):
App events such as screen views, button taps (e.g., “Get Nearby Places”), and simple parameters (e.g., selected category). Firebase may also receive device information (device/OS details, app version, language, IP-derived coarse location), an app instance ID, and (if available) your Advertising ID for measurement. We do not use Analytics to identify you personally.
Advertising (Google AdMob banners):
AdMob may collect device identifiers (e.g., Advertising ID), IP address, and interaction data to show and measure ads. Whether ads are personalized depends on your Google/Android ad settings and applicable law.
Optional Global Leaderboard Participation
If you choose to participate in the Global Leaderboard, the App will collect and transmit the following information to our servers:
Your chosen player initials (2 letters)
Your selected country
Your game performance data (distance accuracy, hints used, and target country)
This information is used solely to display scores on a publicly visible leaderboard within the App. Participation is entirely optional. If you do not enable the “Share my scores” setting, no personal data is transmitted for leaderboard purposes.
We do not ask for or collect your name, email, phone number, or any other direct identifiers.
Provide core functionality (find nearby places and show details from Wikipedia).
Measure basic usage so we can improve reliability and UX.
Show in-app ads (via AdMob).
We do not sell your personal data.
Your use of the app involves these partners; their policies apply to their processing:
Google Firebase (Analytics): https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy
Google AdMob (Advertising): https://policies.google.com/technologies/ads
Wikimedia/Wikipedia API (Content & Search): https://foundation.wikimedia.org/wiki/Policy:Privacy_policy
Location: You can turn location permissions off in your device settings; the app may be limited without it.
Ads personalization: On Android, control in Settings → Google → Ads (or Google Settings → Ads) and at https://adssettings.google.com. You can also reset your Advertising ID.
Analytics: If you prefer not to be measured, you can limit ad/analytics tracking in your device/Google settings, or uninstall the app.
The app is for a general audience and not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided data, contact us and we’ll work with our partners to address it.
K2 Mountain Apps does not store user data on our own servers.
Firebase/Google and Wikimedia retain data according to their respective policies (see links above).
We rely on trusted providers (Google, Wikimedia) that use industry-standard security. Their systems may process data globally, including in countries outside your own.
Where required, we rely on consent (e.g., for personalized ads) and/or legitimate interests (core analytics for app performance and improvement). Your device/Google settings let you manage personalization and certain analytics signals.
We may update this policy as our app or legal requirements change. We’ll post the updated version in our store listing and/or in-app.
