Effective date: August 24, 2026
Timeline is a student planner app designed to help users view and manage school-related information such as homework, tests, lessons, grades, attendance, study sessions, school communications, schedules, and announcements.
Timeline is an independent third-party application and is not an official application of SMS / MySchool, the European Schools, or other school services that it may connect to. Timeline is not sponsored, endorsed, or operated by those services or organisations.
Timeline may process school-related information that the user imports, creates, or enters into the app, including:
timetable and lesson information
homework and tasks
tests and exams
grades
attendance information
school announcements and communications
study timer and study statistics
user settings and app preferences
This information is used to provide Timeline's features.
Timeline can connect to school portals selected by the user, including SMS / MySchool and Extranet, to authenticate the user and retrieve supported school information.
When a user signs in, login information is transmitted directly to the relevant school authentication service as necessary to authenticate the user's account.
Timeline may store login or session information locally on the user's device so that the app can maintain or restore the user's school connection.
Login credentials and imported school information are not transmitted to the Timeline developer or stored on a Timeline school-data server.
Timeline uses only the access available through the user's own authorised school account and does not attempt to bypass authentication, permissions, or access restrictions imposed by the relevant school service.
Timeline is not affiliated with or endorsed by SMS / MySchool, the European Schools, or the organisations operating the school services accessed through the app.
If automatic refresh is enabled, Timeline may connect to supported school services in the background to check for updated school information.
This may include connecting to SMS / MySchool or Extranet and retrieving information that the user has authorised Timeline to access through their school account.
Users can control supported automatic-refresh settings from within Timeline.
Timeline may also use network-related settings, such as Wi-Fi-only refresh, when enabled by the user.
Most Timeline user and school information is stored locally on the user's device.
This may include:
imported school information
app settings and preferences
homework completion state
study information and statistics
locally cached announcements
school session information
information required to maintain or restore a school login session
Locally stored information remains on the user's device until it is removed through an applicable Timeline feature, the user logs out using an option that removes it, the app's storage is cleared, the app is uninstalled, or the device otherwise removes the stored information.
Timeline uses selected Firebase services provided by Google for specific online functionality.
Timeline does not use Google Analytics for Firebase or another behavioural analytics service to track how users use the app.
Cloud Firestore may be used to distribute content published specifically for Timeline, such as Timeline announcements, Green Team content, polls, and other supported shared app content.
The app may download this content from Firebase.
Content distributed through Timeline's Firebase services is separate from the user's private imported SMS / MySchool or Extranet school information.
Timeline may use Firebase Cloud Messaging to provide supported remote notifications, including Timeline announcements.
Firebase Cloud Messaging and related Firebase services may process technical information necessary to provide notifications, such as:
Firebase installation identifiers
messaging tokens
app version
device and app technical information
notification delivery information
These identifiers are used to operate the relevant functionality and are not used by Timeline for advertising or behavioural profiling.
Some Timeline content may include interactive features such as polls.
If a user participates in a poll, Timeline may transmit the selected response together with an installation-scoped identifier where necessary to count votes and help prevent duplicate voting.
This information is used only to provide and maintain the poll functionality.
Timeline includes a technical failure-reporting system designed to identify and fix reliability problems.
When a supported operation fails, Timeline may send a technical diagnostic report containing information such as:
Timeline app version and version code
Android version
device model and manufacturer
general network type, such as Wi-Fi, cellular, or unavailable
the feature or operation that failed
technical progress stages and checkpoints
error codes and error messages
technical stack traces where available
an installation-specific diagnostic identifier
timestamps and timing information related to the failure
These reports are used only to diagnose and fix technical problems with Timeline.
Timeline is designed not to include school passwords, imported grades, homework, schedules, attendance records, or the contents of private school communications in diagnostic reports.
Diagnostic information is not used for advertising, marketing, behavioural profiling, or usage analytics.
Technical failure reports are deleted after they have served their diagnostic purpose and are not intended to create a persistent behavioural history of the user.
Timeline does not use Google Analytics for Firebase or another behavioural analytics service to monitor how individual users use the app.
Timeline does not use analytics data for advertising, marketing, or behavioural profiling.
Technical failure reporting described in this policy is limited to identifying and resolving technical errors and is separate from behavioural or usage analytics.
Timeline does not sell user data.
Timeline does not use imported school information for advertising.
Timeline does not share imported school information with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes.
Limited technical information may be processed by service providers such as Google/Firebase where necessary to provide supported functionality, including:
Firebase Cloud Messaging
Firebase Installations
Cloud Firestore
supported Firebase backend functions
technical failure reporting
School information and authentication information may also be transmitted directly between the user's device and the relevant school service where required to perform a user-authorised operation such as signing in, maintaining a session, refreshing information, or importing school information.
Timeline does not use users' imported school information for advertising.
Timeline does not sell personal information to advertisers.
Timeline does not use behavioural analytics to create advertising profiles.
Timeline uses internet access when required to provide online functionality, including:
connecting to SMS / MySchool or Extranet
signing in to supported school services
importing or refreshing school information
performing automatic background refresh when enabled
downloading Timeline announcements and shared content
receiving push notifications
submitting supported poll responses
sending technical failure reports when a supported operation fails
The app may display school webpages inside a WebView so that users can sign in or access supported school functionality.
When third-party webpages or services are used, communication may also be subject to the privacy practices of the relevant third party.
Timeline may provide notifications for features such as:
school updates
new announcements
study timers
other Timeline features enabled by the user
Users can control supported notification categories within Timeline's settings and can manage Timeline's notification permission through Android settings.
Firebase Cloud Messaging may be used where remote notification delivery is required.
Most user-created and imported school information handled by Timeline is stored locally on the user's device.
Users can remove locally stored Timeline information by:
using applicable logout or data-management controls inside Timeline
clearing Timeline's app storage through Android
uninstalling Timeline
Uninstalling Timeline removes the app's locally stored data according to Android's app-storage behaviour and stops future processing by that installation.
Technical diagnostic information is retained only as necessary to investigate supported failures and is not used to maintain a behavioural profile of the user.
Information processed independently by third-party services such as Firebase or a school portal may be subject to the privacy and retention practices of those respective services.
Timeline is designed to minimise unnecessary collection and transmission of private school information.
School login credentials and imported school information are not uploaded to a Timeline school-data server.
Where login or session information is stored by Timeline, it is stored locally for the purpose of maintaining or restoring the user's authorised connection to supported school services.
Timeline communicates with supported online services using the network connections provided by those services.
No method of electronic storage or transmission can be guaranteed to be completely secure. Timeline is designed to limit access to user information to what is necessary to provide its functionality.
Timeline is designed as a school productivity application and may be used by students.
Timeline does not knowingly:
sell student data
use imported school information for advertising
share imported school information for third-party marketing
use behavioural analytics to create profiles of students
School information imported into Timeline is used to provide the app's school-planning and related functionality.
Where Timeline connects to a school service, access is performed using the user's own authorised account and remains subject to the permissions and access rules of that service.
Timeline may interact with services operated by third parties, including Google/Firebase and supported school portals such as SMS / MySchool and Extranet.
These services operate independently from Timeline and may process information according to their own privacy policies, security practices, and terms.
Timeline is not responsible for the privacy practices of independent third-party websites or services opened or accessed through the app.
Timeline provides independent compatibility with certain school services for the convenience of users.
Timeline is not affiliated with, sponsored by, endorsed by, or an official product of SMS / MySchool, the European Schools, or other school services accessed through the app.
Any names used to identify third-party services are used solely to indicate compatibility or identify the service with which the user is choosing to connect.
This Privacy Policy may be updated when Timeline's functionality, third-party services, or data practices change.
Material changes will be reflected by updating this page and its effective date.
