Tareeqi ("we", "our", "the app") is a public transit navigation app for Cairo, Egypt. This policy explains what data the app collects, how it is used, and your rights.
Data We Collect
Location Data
The app uses your device's GPS to provide navigation directions.
Location is only accessed while the app is in use (foreground). We do not track your location in the background.
Your location coordinates are sent to routing services (listed below) to calculate routes.
Search Queries
When you search for a destination, your search text is sent to Google Places API and OpenStreetMap Nominatim to find matching locations.
Search results are cached on your device for 24 hours to reduce repeated requests.
Account Information (Optional)
You may create an account to save your places across devices. Signing in is optional — the app works fully without one.
Depending on how you sign in, we collect: your email address, and (if you use Google Sign-In) your name, as provided by your Google account.
Accounts are managed by Supabase, our backend provider. See their privacy policy below.
Saved Places
You may save Home, Work, and Pinned locations. These are always stored on your device.
If you sign in, your saved places are also synced to our servers (via Supabase) so they're available when you sign in on another device. If you don't sign in, they never leave your device.
Route History (Local Only)
Your last 5 routes are stored on your device for quick access. This data is never sent externally.
Referrals (Optional)
If you're signed in, the app generates a unique referral code tied to your account, so you can invite others.
When someone installs the app after tapping your invite link, we read Google Play's Install Referrer data (a standard Play Store API) to attribute the install to your code, and record that attribution in our database.
Crash Reports (Optional)
If enabled, the app sends anonymous crash reports to Sentry (sentry.io) to help us fix bugs. These reports include:
Error messages and stack traces
App performance data (route calculation time, GPS acquisition time)
Device type and operating system version
Crash reports do not include your name, email, full addresses, or any personal identifiers. Addresses are truncated to prevent identification.
Data We Do NOT Collect
We do not collect your phone number.
We do not collect device identifiers (IMEI, advertising ID).
We do not track your location in the background.
We do not sell personal data to anyone.
Account and saved-place data is used only to operate the app for you — never shared with third parties beyond the service providers listed below.
Third-Party Services
The app communicates with the following services to function:
Google Places API — Address search suggestions
Data sent: search text, Cairo region coordinates
Nominatim (OpenStreetMap) — Address search (supplementary)
Data sent: search text, Cairo region coordinates
OSRM (OpenStreetMap) — Route calculation
Data sent: start and end coordinates
Mapbox — Map tile display
Data sent: map viewport coordinates
Supabase — Account sign-in, saved-place sync, referrals
Data sent: email, name (if using Google Sign-In), saved places, referral code
Sentry — Crash reporting (optional)
Data sent: anonymous error data

Advertising
The app includes the Google Mobile Ads SDK but advertisements are currently not displayed. If ads are enabled in a future update, this policy will be updated accordingly.
Data Storage and Security
Local data (saved places, route history, preferences) is stored on your device.
If you sign in, your saved places and account details are stored on Supabase's servers.
All API communications use HTTPS encryption.
API keys are not exposed in the app bundle.
Children's Privacy
Tareeqi is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
Your Rights
Delete local data: Clear all saved places and route history by clearing the app's data in your device settings or uninstalling the app.
Delete your account: To request deletion of your account and all associated data (saved places, referral history), email us at Tareeqi.nav@gmail.com. We will delete your data within 30 days.
Disable crash reporting: Crash reporting via Sentry can be disabled.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date at the top.
