Charly Reeds is a gamified reading app for kids and adults that helps users improve reading speed, focus, and comprehension through a progression of levels, disappearing-word challenges, quizzes, and both curated and AI-generated stories. The app supports offline play by allowing users to download story packs.
This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices available to users — including parents and guardians — in respect of children’s data.
Charly Reeds is intended for general audiences, including children. We follow Google Play Families policies and applicable children’s privacy laws (such as COPPA in the United States) where they apply. Where we have actual knowledge that a user is a child subject to additional legal protections, we limit data collection and processing as described below and obtain verifiable parental consent where required by law.
Minimal personal data collection.
Reading progress and metrics are processed primarily on-device.
We collect limited diagnostic and aggregated analytics to improve the app.
No precise location, contacts, camera/microphone, or other sensitive personal data are collected.
No personalized advertising in reading sessions.
We do not sell personal data.
We do not collect:
Precise geo-location.
Contacts, address book, or call logs.
Camera photos or raw microphone audio.
Government ID numbers or sensitive health data.
Payment card details (no in-app purchases are required at this time).
Personal identification tied to reading sessions (names, emails) unless a user explicitly creates an account.
On-device only (default and preferred):
Reading session metrics such as words-per-minute (WPM) estimates, quiz scores, level progress, streaks, and badges — used to display progress and drive in-app learning. These remain on the device unless you choose to sync or share them.
Sent to our servers (only when necessary and minimized):
Crash reports and diagnostic logs (non-identifying device model, OS version, app version, stack traces) to troubleshoot and fix issues.
Aggregated, de-identified analytics (feature usage counts, session lengths) used only to improve the product. These analytics do not include usernames, emails, or device identifiers tied to a person for children under applicable laws.
AI story generation:
When generating AI stories server-side, we may send non-identifying parameters such as requested reading level, theme or topic category, and difficulty settings. We do not include personal identifiers (name, email) in these requests.
Charly Reeds currently does not require account creation.
If we add optional account features (e.g., cloud sync across devices), account creation will be explicit and optional. For child accounts, we will require verifiable parental consent where required by law and update this policy and related disclosures accordingly.
Parents/guardians can control app access by using device-level parental controls.
Parents can review or delete local progress by clearing app data or uninstalling the app.
For server-side data tied to a child’s device (e.g., crash logs or analytics entries), parents may request review or deletion by contacting dropofcontact@gmail.com. We will follow reasonable verification steps before responding to such requests when legally required.
There are no third-party ads displayed during reading sessions.
If we introduce ads in other areas of the app in the future, we will comply with Google Play Families requirements (including using Families-approved ad SDKs where applicable), disable personalized ads for children, and update the Data safety form and this Privacy Policy.
We minimize use of third-party SDKs. Any SDKs used for crash reporting or analytics are configured to avoid collecting personal information for children and to limit persistent identifiers where possible. We do not share children’s personal information with third parties except to provide the service (for example, hosting providers) and only under contractual obligations to protect the data.
On-device progress and downloaded story packs are retained until the user clears app data or uninstalls the app.
Crash logs and diagnostic data are retained only as long as necessary to resolve issues and improve app stability, and are then deleted or aggregated.
Aggregated analytics are retained in de-identified form for product improvement.
We apply reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect data we process. Data transmitted to our servers is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). While we strive to protect data, no system is 100% secure; if a security incident occurs affecting personal or sensitive data, we will follow applicable notification requirements.
Our servers and service providers may be located in multiple countries. Where data is transferred across borders, we will take reasonable measures to protect it, such as contractual safeguards or other legal mechanisms required by applicable law.
Access and deletion: Parents may request access to or deletion of server-side diagnostic/analytics entries associated with their child’s device by contacting dropofcontact@gmail.com. Reasonable verification steps may be required.
Opt-out of analytics: If you prefer not to contribute aggregated analytics, please contact dropofcontact@gmail.com with your device identifier and request; we will guide you through available options.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes affecting children’s data practices will include notice in-app and, where legally required, will require updated parental consent prior to the change taking effect. The “Last updated” date at the top of this policy reflects the current version.
