Privacy Policy for KomaTranslator

KomaTranslator is a browser extension designed to detect text contained in images using Optical Character Recognition (OCR) and translate the detected text into a language selected by the user.

This Privacy Policy explains what information KomaTranslator processes, how it is used, and when information may be transmitted to third-party services.

1. Information Processed by KomaTranslator

KomaTranslator may process website content when the user actively uses its OCR and translation features.

This content may include:

KomaTranslator does not intentionally collect personal identification information, financial information, authentication credentials, health information, location information, browsing history, or user activity for tracking purposes.

2. Optical Character Recognition (OCR)

OCR processing is performed locally on the user's device using Tesseract.js and OCR language data packaged with the extension.

Images captured for OCR are processed locally and are not uploaded to a KomaTranslator server.

KomaTranslator does not operate its own server for storing OCR images or OCR results.

3. Translation

When the user requests a translation, the text to be translated is transmitted to Google Translate through Google's translation service (translate.googleapis.com) in order to obtain the requested translation.

Only the text required to perform the requested translation is sent for this purpose.

The transmission is necessary to provide KomaTranslator's translation functionality. KomaTranslator does not control Google's processing of information received by Google's services. Users should consult Google's applicable privacy policies for information about how Google handles data.

4. Local Storage

KomaTranslator uses browser extension storage to save information necessary for its functionality and user preferences.

KomaTranslator does not sell this locally stored information or use it for advertising or profiling.

5. External Dictionary Resources

KomaTranslator includes local language resources used to improve text processing. In certain cases, the extension may retrieve dictionary data from resources hosted on GitHub when required as a fallback.

These resources consist of language data and are not executable remote code.

6. Data Sharing

KomaTranslator does not sell user data.

User data is not transferred to third parties for advertising, marketing, profiling, creditworthiness assessment, or purposes unrelated to KomaTranslator's functionality.

Text may be transmitted to Google Translate only when necessary to provide the translation functionality requested by the user.

Standard network information, such as the user's IP address, may necessarily be received by third-party services when the browser communicates with those services. KomaTranslator does not independently collect or store this information.

7. Browsing History and Tracking

KomaTranslator requires access to webpages so that its OCR and translation interface can operate on supported website content.

This access is used to provide the extension's functionality.

KomaTranslator does not create or maintain a history of websites visited by the user and does not use webpage access to track the user's browsing activity.

KomaTranslator does not use analytics or advertising trackers to monitor users across websites.

8. Data Retention

KomaTranslator does not operate a remote database for storing users' OCR images, translations, browsing history, or personal information.

Preferences and other locally stored extension data may remain in the browser until they are modified, cleared, or the extension is removed, subject to the browser's storage behavior.

Information transmitted to third-party services is subject to the retention practices and privacy policies of those services.

9. Children's Privacy

KomaTranslator does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

The extension is a general-purpose OCR and translation utility and is not designed specifically to collect information from children.

10. Changes to This Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated if KomaTranslator's functionality or data-processing practices change.
