SourceDrop Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 6, 2026
SourceDrop ("SourceDrop", "we", "us", or "our") is a Chrome extension that allows users to save selected text together with information about its source.
We respect your privacy. SourceDrop is designed to keep your saved content and settings locally in your browser and does not currently operate a remote server or analytics service.
1. Information SourceDrop handles
When you use SourceDrop, the extension may handle the following information:
Text that you explicitly select and choose to save.
The title of the web page containing the selected text.
The URL of that web page.
The date and time when the quote is saved.
Favorite status and tags associated with saved clips.
SourceDrop settings and preferences.
SourceDrop only accesses page information when you explicitly invoke a SourceDrop action, such as saving or copying a selected quote.
2. How we use this information
The information handled by SourceDrop is used solely to provide the extension's functionality, including:
Saving quotes together with their sources.
Displaying and searching saved clips.
Copying saved clips in the selected format.
Marking clips as favorites.
Exporting saved clips as JSON or Markdown.
Storing your SourceDrop preferences.
SourceDrop does not use your saved content for advertising, profiling, or unrelated purposes.
3. Where your data is stored
Saved clips and SourceDrop settings are stored locally using Chrome's extension storage (chrome.storage.local).
SourceDrop does not currently transmit saved clips or settings to a SourceDrop server.
Because the data is stored locally in your browser, it is subject to the security and storage mechanisms provided by Chrome.
4. Data sharing
SourceDrop does not sell, rent, or share your saved clips or personal information with third parties.
SourceDrop does not currently use third-party analytics, advertising services, tracking technologies, or external data-processing services.
5. Permissions
SourceDrop requests only the permissions necessary to provide its functionality:
contextMenus: Used to provide the SourceDrop actions in the browser's context menu.
storage: Used to store saved clips and extension settings locally.
activeTab: Used to temporarily access the active page after a user-initiated SourceDrop action.
scripting: Used to perform the copy-to-clipboard functionality after the user explicitly requests it.
SourceDrop does not request persistent access to all websites and does not use host_permissions.
6. User control
You control the content you save with SourceDrop. You can delete individual clips from the extension and export your saved data.
If you no longer want SourceDrop to retain locally stored data, you can remove the saved clips through the extension or remove the extension from Chrome.
7. Children's privacy
SourceDrop is not specifically directed at children and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
8. Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy if the functionality of SourceDrop changes or if new services are introduced.
Any changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this policy.
