Privacy Policy for the Mobile Application “Mentis”
The protection of your personal data is an important concern for us. We treat your personal data confidentially and in accordance with statutory data protection regulations (in particular the EU General Data Protection Regulation – GDPR) and this Privacy Policy.
This Privacy Policy informs you about the nature, scope, and purpose of the processing of personal data within our app Mentis.

The app Mentis processes data at two levels:
Local Data (on your device): Game scores, statistics, app settings (e.g., language selection, light/dark mode). These remain strictly local on your end device.
Third-Party Services (Google Firebase & AdMob): For error analysis, performance optimization, usage statistics, and serving advertisements.

Mentis uses a local database (Hive) on your device. The following data is stored:
Settings: Selected color scheme (Light/Dark/System), chosen language, font size settings, premium status.
Statistics & Progress: Number of completed puzzles, current win streak, completed training days, best times per mode/grid size.
These data are not transferred to external servers and remain exclusively local on your end device. They are deleted as soon as you uninstall the app or clear the app storage in your device settings.
We use infrastructure and analytics services provided by Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland (“Google”). Insofar as data is transferred to the USA in this context, this is based on the EU Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses as well as Google’s certification under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework.
a) Google Firebase Analytics
Firebase Analytics helps us understand how users interact with the app. Pseudonymous interaction events (e.g., starting a puzzle, completing a level, settings used) as well as general system information (e.g., device type, OS version, country) are collected. IP addresses are anonymized by Google prior to evaluation. No merging with personal user profiles takes place.
Legal Basis: Consent pursuant to Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR (via the consent banner at first app launch) or our legitimate interest pursuant to Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR in optimizing our app offering.
b) Google Firebase Crashlytics
To ensure the stability and reliability of our app, we use Firebase Crashlytics. In the event of an app crash, technical information is automatically collected (crash timestamps, device state at the time of error, OS version, anonymous installation ID). No personal data or puzzle content is read or stored.
Legal Basis: Legitimate interest pursuant to Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR in detecting and fixing system errors.
c) Google Firebase Performance Monitoring
This service measures technical performance characteristics of the app, such as rendering times of the game board. This helps us identify performance bottlenecks on specific device types.
Legal Basis: Legitimate interest pursuant to Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR in maintaining the technical performance of the app.
The app displays ad banners (Native Ads) in the lower section of the screen. We use the advertising service Google AdMob. AdMob uses identifiers from your mobile device (e.g., Google Advertising ID on Android or IDFA on iOS) to serve ads and measure their effectiveness.
Consent Management (Consent Banner / UMP SDK):
Upon opening the app for the first time in the EU/EEA, a consent banner (Google User Messaging Platform) will be shown. You can choose whether to consent to the serving of personalized advertising and access to device identifiers or whether only non-personalized advertising should be displayed. You can change or revoke your settings at any time in the app settings.
Legal Basis: For personalized advertising: Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR (Consent). For technically required non-personalized ads: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (Legitimate interest in monetizing the free app offering).
Under the GDPR, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:
Right of Access (Art. 15 GDPR): You have the right to obtain confirmation as to whether or not personal data concerning you is being processed.
Right to Rectification (Art. 16 GDPR): You have the right to request the rectification of inaccurate data.
Right to Erasure (Art. 17 GDPR): You have the right to request the deletion of your personal data, provided no statutory retention obligations apply.
Right to Restriction of Processing (Art. 18 GDPR): Under certain conditions, you can request the restriction of data processing.
Right to Object (Art. 21 GDPR): Where processing is based on Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest), you have the right to object at any time on grounds relating to your particular situation.
Right to Withdraw Consent (Art. 7(3) GDPR): You may withdraw your consent at any time with effect for the future.
Right to Lodge a Complaint (Art. 77 GDPR): You have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority.
Firebase Analytics data is automatically deleted according to Google's standard settings (typically 2 to 14 months).
Crashlytics logs are deleted by Google after 90 days.
Local app data remains on your device until the app is uninstalled.
We reserve the right to modify this Privacy Policy to ensure it always complies with current legal requirements or to implement changes to our app functions.
