Privacy Policy

Kybernetix (“we”, “our”, or “us”) built the apps velapace Companion and velahelm (together “vela-apps”) as free applications. This service is provided by Kybernetix and is intended for use as is. This Privacy Policy applies to both the Android and iOS versions of vela-apps.
We do not collect or store personal data on Kybernetix servers. vela-apps primarily process data locally on your device to provide sailing/navigation features.
vela-apps may use third-party services (such as Google Play Services and Apple App Store Services) that could collect information used to identify you, under their own privacy policies.

vela-apps may access your device’s precise location (e.g., GPS coordinates) to provide core functionality, including but not limited to:
displaying your position on a map/chart view
calculating course, speed, distances, bearings, VMG/VMC, and other sailing performance metrics
navigating to waypoints and computing related guidance
generating location-based alarms (e.g., anchor/position drift alarms, arrival/waypoint proximity alarms, and similar safety/performance alerts)
Foreground and background usage:
Foreground: location is accessed while the app is open and in use.
Background (required for certain features): if you enable alarms, tracking/logging, or other continuous navigation features, vela-apps may access location while the app is not visible (e.g., screen off or running in the background) in order to keep alarms functional and up to date.
How location data is handled / disclosure:
Location data is processed locally on your device.
We do not transmit your precise location to Kybernetix servers.
We do not disclose, sell, or share your precise location with third parties.
Any tracks/logs (if the feature is enabled) are stored on your device unless you explicitly export/share them.
Your choices and controls:
You can grant or revoke location permissions at any time in your device settings.
If you deny location permission or background location permission (where applicable), location-dependent features (especially alarms and continuous tracking) may not work as intended.
All vela-apps data (including any location-based calculations and any tracks/logs created by features you enable) is stored locally on your device, unless otherwise stated. We do not store or transmit your location data or other personal data to our servers.
vela-apps are not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.
