1.1 Local Data Storage (Privacy First)
Unlike many other apps, Smartnote operates on a "Local-First" basis.
Notes and Tasks: All text notes, to-do lists, and calendar tasks are stored locally on your device using a secure database.
Media Files: Voice recordings, sketches, and images/videos attached to your notes are saved in your device's internal or external storage.
No Server Uploads: We DO NOT upload your notes, images, or audio files to any external servers or cloud services. Your data belongs to you and remains on your phone.
1.2 Automated Data Collection
To provide and improve our service, we use third-party services that may collect information used to identify you:
Google AdMob: Our app displays advertisements provided by Google. AdMob may collect certain data, such as your Advertising ID, device information, and location data to show relevant ads. You can manage these settings in your Google Account.
ML Kit (Text Recognition): We use Google's ML Kit for the OCR (Optical Character Recognition) feature. This processing happens entirely on your device. No images are sent to Google servers for this purpose.
2. Permissions We Request
To provide full functionality, the app requires the following permissions:
Microphone (RECORD_AUDIO): Used only when you choose to record voice notes.
Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS): Used to send you reminders for your tasks.
Alarms (SCHEDULE_EXACT_ALARM): Necessary for the precise timing of your reminders and calendar tasks.
Biometrics: Used only to unlock your secured notes. We do not have access to your actual fingerprint or face data; the verification is handled by the Android system.
3. Data Security
We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your local data. However, please remember that since your data is stored on your device, its security also depends on your device's security settings (like screen locks and encryption).
4. Children’s Privacy
Our app does not knowingly collect any personally identifiable information from children under 13. Smartnote is safe for general audiences.
5. Third-Party Links
Our app may contain links to other sites (via ads). If you click on a third-party link, you will be directed to that site. Note that these external sites are not operated by us.
