Friend Focus ("we", "our", or "us") is a Google Chrome extension designed to curate your Facebook news feed. Our goal is to provide a focused, personal experience by displaying posts from your friends, selected groups, and the Pages and People you follow — while filtering out ads, sponsored posts, reels, algorithmic suggestions, and other unwanted content.
We value your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This policy outlines how we handle your information.
To function correctly, the extension accesses specific data directly from the web pages you visit on facebook.com.
The extension identifies your friends to create an allowlist.
What we access: The names and/or profile identifiers of users in your Facebook friend list.
Purpose: To verify which posts in your feed are written by your actual friends and to filter your Stories tray to show only stories from your friends and, when enabled, People and Pages you follow.
The extension identifies groups you choose to follow.
What we access: The names and/or identifiers of Facebook Groups you have synced with the extension.
Purpose: To selectively show posts from groups you have chosen and hide posts from all other groups.
The extension identifies Pages and People you follow.
What we access: The names and/or identifiers of Pages and People you have synced with the extension.
Purpose: To include posts from your followed Pages and People alongside your friends' posts in the filtered feed.
The extension reads the content of your Facebook news feed and Stories tray.
What we access: The text associated with post authors and headers on the page.
Purpose: To compare each post's author against your stored allowlists. If the author is not found in any of your lists, the extension hides the post.
The extension tracks how many posts and stories it has hidden each day.
What we access: A daily count of hidden posts and stories.
Purpose: To display filtering statistics to you within the extension. This data is stored locally on your device and is never linked to specific posts or authors.
We use the information described above strictly for the functional operation of the extension:
Filtering: To distinguish between allowed content (friends, selected groups, followed Pages and People) and content you have not chosen to see.
Display: To render a clean feed containing only posts from users and communities on your allowlists.
Import / Export: If you use the Import/Export feature, your lists and settings are saved to or loaded from a local file on your own device. No data is transmitted to any server at any point during this process.
We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your personally identifiable information to outside parties.
All processing happens locally on your device.
No remote servers: We do not transmit your friend list, group list, following list, browsing history, or the content of your news feed to any external servers or databases.
Local storage: Your list data is stored locally in your browser's storage (chrome.storage.local) solely for the purpose of maintaining the filter.
Import / Export: The Import/Export feature reads from and writes to files on your local device only. No network requests are made during import or export.
Security: Because data never leaves your browser environment, it is protected by the same security protocols that secure your local browser data.
This extension does not utilize third-party analytics tools (such as Google Analytics) or advertising networks. The extension itself does not send any data to any external party — including Facebook/Meta, advertisers, or us as the developer.
As a Chrome Web Store listing, Google collects aggregate usage statistics (such as install counts and weekly active users) as part of operating the store platform. We can view these aggregate metrics through the Chrome Web Store developer dashboard; however, no individual user is identifiable to us through this data.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. You are advised to review this page periodically for any changes. We will notify you of any changes by posting the updated Privacy Policy on this page.
