FiChat is designed to enable secure communication, including in situations where internet or cellular connectivity is unavailable, through decentralized mesh networking technology.

Our core philosophy is simple: What we don't collect, we can't lose, sell, or be forced to hand over.

This Privacy Policy explains what information FiChat handles, how it is used, how it is protected, and what controls are available to you.


1. Information We Collect

To provide mesh communication and related services, FiChat may handle the following types of information.

Profile Information

When you create or update your FiChat profile, the following information is stored locally on your device:

Your profile information may be shared with nearby FiChat users through the mesh network. When World Bridge Mode is enabled, certain profile information may also be transmitted through our relay infrastructure so that other users can identify your profile.

Communication Data

Private and Group Messages

Private and group communications, including text messages, images, and voice messages, are protected using End-to-End Encryption (E2EE).

FiChat is designed so that the encryption keys required to decrypt private communications are not accessible to FiChat developers or infrastructure providers.

File Transfers

When images or files are transmitted through World Bridge, they may be temporarily stored in secure cloud storage provided by Firebase.

These files are encrypted during transmission and are designed to be automatically deleted after approximately 60 minutes, subject to technical limitations or service interruptions.

Location Data

Radar and Map Features

FiChat may request location permission to display your approximate position on Radar and Map features. Location information is used to calculate distances and display nearby peers.

Where technically possible, location processing is performed locally on your device.

Background Location

FiChat may request background location access to maintain mesh connectivity when the application is running in the background or when your screen is turned off.

This functionality helps FiChat maintain peer connections and receive messages without requiring the application to remain visibly open.


2. No Tracking & No Analytics

Unlike many traditional messaging applications, FiChat is designed without third-party behavioral analytics or user-tracking systems.


3. Mesh Networking & Relay Technology

FiChat uses technologies such as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi to establish local peer-to-peer connections.

Device Identification

FiChat generates a random identifier for your device within the mesh network. This identifier is intended to allow devices to communicate without directly exposing your real-world identity.

Relay Support

Your device may act as a relay, or "hop," for other FiChat users.

Relay devices forward encrypted packets but are not designed to have access to the encryption keys required to read the contents of those messages.


4. Third-Party Services

FiChat limits the use of third-party services to those necessary to provide specific application functionality.

Google Play Billing

Google Play Billing is used to process FiChat Premium subscriptions and purchases.

Payment information is handled by Google according to Google's applicable privacy policies and terms. FiChat does not directly process your full payment card information.

Firebase

FiChat uses certain Firebase services, including Firebase Firestore and Firebase Storage, for features such as World Bridge and SOS.

These services may temporarily process or store encrypted data for message delivery or relay purposes. FiChat is designed so that encrypted private message content cannot be decrypted by the service provider without the appropriate encryption keys.

Temporary data is automatically removed according to the application's data-retention mechanisms.

osmdroid

FiChat uses osmdroid to provide mapping functionality, including support for offline-capable maps.


5. Data Security & User Controls

FiChat implements multiple security and privacy features designed to give users greater control over their data.

Encryption

FiChat uses modern cryptographic technologies, including AES-256 encryption and X25519-based key exchange, where applicable.

Privacy Mode

FiChat provides privacy settings that can restrict screenshots within supported areas of the application.

Identity Reset

You can reset your FiChat digital identity through the application settings.

When an identity reset is performed, FiChat generates a new device identity and removes applicable previous identity information from supported relay systems.

Manual Deletion

You have control over locally stored content and can delete individual messages or clear the application's local database through available application settings.


6. Children's Privacy

FiChat is not directed toward children under the age of 13.

FiChat does not require users to create an account using an email address or phone number. We therefore do not intentionally collect personally identifiable information from children under 13.

If you believe that a child has provided personal information to FiChat, please contact us so that we can review and take appropriate action.


7. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in FiChat's technology, features, services, or legal requirements.

When changes are made, the "Last Updated" date at the top of this Privacy Policy will be updated accordingly.

We encourage users to review this Privacy Policy periodically.
