Privacy Policy – Detach
Last updated: 22 January 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how the Detach mobile application (“Detach”, “the app”, “we”, “us”) processes information when you use it.
Detach is developed by Michal Zaujec | Detach, located in Slovakia.
If you have any questions, you can contact us at: detach.application@gmail.com.
1. What Detach does
Detach is a focus / digital wellbeing app.
Its main purpose is to help you stay focused by:
Starting time-boxed “focus sessions”
Temporarily blocking selected apps and bouncing you back to Detach
Optionally filtering or silencing notifications during a session
Offering a “penalty screen” to discourage you from breaking a session
Providing an optional paid upgrade (“Detach+”) with extra features such as custom timer durations
To do this, Detach uses special Android permissions such as Accessibility Service and Notification access. These permissions are used only to provide the app’s focus and blocking functionality and can be revoked by you at any time.
Detach is not intended for use in safety-critical situations (such as driving or emergencies).
2. No account, no direct personal identifiers
Detach does not require you to create an account.
We do not ask you to enter your name, email address (inside the app), phone number, or other contact details to use its core features.
We do not use the app to profile you or track you across other apps and services.
If you contact us directly (for example, via email), we will receive the information you choose to send (such as your email address and the content of your message) and will use it only to respond to your query.
3. What data the app processes
All data listed here is processed on your device and, unless stated otherwise, is not sent to our own servers.
3.1. Focus session data and settings
The app stores a small amount of data locally on your device, such as:
Focus session configuration (duration, start/end time)
Blocking options (e.g., whether calls or messages are allowed)
App language selection
Whether Detach+ is unlocked on your device (premium flag)
Last used custom timer duration (Detach+)
Other app preferences
Where stored: Android’s local storage (e.g. SharedPreferences) inside the app sandbox.
Purpose: To provide the app’s core functionality and remember your preferences between launches.
Sharing: Not shared with us or third parties.
You can delete this data at any time by uninstalling the app or clearing its data in Android system settings.
Detach does not block incoming phone calls or messages by default. Any restriction of outgoing calls or other system actions occurs only if you explicitly enable such options in the app’s settings.
3.2. Accessibility service data
If you enable Detach as an Accessibility Service, Android will send the app certain information about what is happening on your device, such as:
Which app is currently in the foreground
Changes to the active window or screen
How we use it:
To detect when a blocked app comes to the foreground during an active focus session.
To perform system navigation actions (such as the Android “Back” action) and bring you back to Detach, enforcing your focus session.
What we do not do:
We do not read, store, or transmit the detailed content of other apps’ screens beyond what is necessary to identify the foreground app.
We do not log or transmit keystrokes, passwords, or other sensitive input.
We do not send Accessibility data to our servers or to third parties.
Although Android allows Accessibility Services to retrieve limited window content, all processing is done locally on your device and only for enforcing focus rules.
You can disable Accessibility access for Detach at any time in your Android system settings. If you disable it, Detach will no longer be able to block apps.
3.3. Notification data
If you grant Detach Notification Listener access, Android will send the app details about notifications, such as:
The app that posted the notification
The notification title and text
When the notification arrived
How we use it:
To filter or silence notifications during a focus session (depending on your configuration), so you are less distracted.
What we do not do:
We do not send the contents of your notifications to our servers.
We do not sell or share your notification data with advertisers or data brokers.
Notification data is processed locally on your device and only for the purpose of blocking or allowing notifications while a focus session is active.
You can revoke notification access at any time in your Android system settings.
3.4. In-app purchases (Detach+)
Detach+ is unlocked via an in-app purchase processed by Google Play.
We do not handle your payment card details; this is done by Google.
We may receive a non-personal purchase token or similar information from Google, which we store locally (e.g. as a premium flag) to keep your Detach+ status active on your device.
For more information about how Google processes payment data, please see Google’s Privacy Policy and Google Play Terms of Service.
3.5. Crash reports and diagnostics
At the moment, Detach does not integrate any third-party analytics or crash reporting SDKs (such as Firebase Analytics or Crashlytics).
However, Google Play and Android may provide us with aggregated information, such as:
Number of installs or uninstalls
High-level crash statistics
Generic device information (e.g. Android version, device model)
We use this information only to understand how the app is performing and to improve stability. These platform-level statistics are governed by Google’s own privacy policies and terms.
If we later integrate analytics or crash reporting SDKs, this policy will be updated accordingly.
4. Legal bases for processing (EEA/UK)
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA) or the United Kingdom, we rely on the following legal bases under the GDPR/UK GDPR:
Performance of a contract: to provide the app and its features (e.g. storing your focus settings or language).
Legitimate interests: to analyze aggregated app performance information and prevent abuse or misuse.
You can withdraw permissions such as Accessibility or Notification access at any time in your Android system settings. If you uninstall the app, all locally stored app data is removed from your device.
5. Data sharing
We do not:
Sell your personal data.
Share your data with advertisers or data brokers.
We may share data only in the following limited situations:
1. Service providers and platforms
We rely on Google Play and related Google services for app distribution, billing, and platform-level diagnostics. These services process certain information under their own privacy policies.
2. Legal requirements
We may disclose information if required by law or in response to valid legal process, and only to the extent required.
6. Data retention
Because Detach does not use a backend server for your app data:
Focus session settings, language, premium status, and similar data are stored locally on your device until you uninstall the app or clear its data.
Any purchase token or premium flag from Google Play is also stored locally until you clear data or uninstall.
We do not maintain separate backups of your settings outside your device.
7. Security
We take reasonable steps to protect your information, including:
Limiting the data we handle mainly to local settings and permissions
Relying on Android’s built-in sandboxing and permission system
Not transmitting your focus or notification data to our own servers
However, no mobile app or system is perfectly secure. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your device (for example, using a screen lock and keeping your operating system updated).
8. Children’s privacy
Detach is intended for general audiences and is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age required by law in your country).
If you believe that a child has used the app in a way that is not consistent with this policy, please contact us at detach.application@gmail.com.
9. Your rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights regarding your personal data, including:
The right to access information about how it is used
The right to request correction of inaccurate data
The right to request deletion of data
Because Detach does not maintain user accounts and stores data only locally on your device, you can generally exercise these rights by:
Revoking permissions (Accessibility, Notification) in Android system settings
Clearing the app’s data
Uninstalling the app
If you have questions about your rights, contact detach.application@gmail.com.
10. Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time.
When we do:
We will update the “Last updated” date.
We may update the Google Play Store listing or show an in-app notice if the changes are material.
If we introduce data collection or sharing practices that materially differ from what is described here, we will update this policy before doing so.
