General Information
Content Exporter is a browser extension designed to export public content from Instagram in JSON format for analysis and research purposes.
Data Collection
**This extension does NOT collect, does NOT transmit, and does NOT store any personal data.**
What the extension does:
- Reads public content from Instagram pages you visit
- Saves JSON files locally on your device
- Stores local preferences (e.g., number of posts to export)
What the extension does NOT do:
- ❌ Does NOT send data to external servers
- ❌ Does NOT track your activity
- ❌ Does NOT access your Instagram credentials
- ❌ Does NOT share information with third parties
- ❌ Does NOT use analytics or telemetry
Required Permissions
The extension requires the following Chrome permissions:
1. `downloads`
**Purpose**: Save JSON files to your computer
**Usage**: When you click "Download Profile", the extension creates JSON files and saves them to the Downloads folder
2. `downloads.shelf`
**Purpose**: Organize downloads into subfolders
**Usage**: Creates a folder named after the profile (e.g., username/) to keep all exported posts organized together
3. `storage`
**Purpose**: Store local preferences
**Usage**: Saves settings such as the number of posts to export (only in your browser)
4. `activeTab`
**Purpose**: Read content from the current Instagram page
**Usage**: Extracts text and links from the page you are viewing
5. `https://www.instagram.com/*`
**Purpose**: Work on Instagram
**Usage**: The extension only works when you are on Instagram.com
Data Storage
- **Local**: All data is stored locally in your browser
- **No cloud**: No data is sent to external servers
- **Full control**: You can delete all data by removing the extension
Instagram Data
The extension only accesses **public content** available on Instagram:
- Public posts
- Public descriptions
- Links to public media
IMPORTANT:
- The extension does not bypass Instagram privacy restrictions
- Does not access private content
- Does not modify content on Instagram
- All exported content belongs to the respective owners
Security
- The code is open source and verifiable
- Does not use tracking libraries
- Does not contain obfuscated code
- Operates entirely in your browser
Cookies
The extension does **NOT** use cookies.
