Privacy Policy for Bindle

Bindle respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information Bindle collects, how it is used, and how it is stored when you use the app.

1. Information We Collect

Bindle stores the content you explicitly save: links (along with their title, source domain, description, and platform), notes you write, tags you create, and the read/unread status of each item. When you save a link, Bindle reads basic information from that page, such as its title and description, to fill in the details automatically. Bindle also stores your recent search queries and your theme preference (light or dark mode) so the app remembers how you like it set up.

If you turn on Google Drive backup (see section 4), Bindle also stores the email address of the Google account you connected, on your device only, so it can show you which account is in use.

Bindle does not collect your name, location, or contacts, and it does not require you to create an account. The only technical identifier involved is the one described under Feature settings in section 3.

2. Where Your Data Is Stored

Everything described above is stored locally on your device. Bindle does not operate a server, and we never receive your saved items, notes, tags, or search history. Your data only leaves your device in the situations described in sections 3 and 4, and the backups in section 4 only happen when you choose to use them.

3. Third-Party Requests

When you save a link, Bindle contacts that link's website directly, the same way a web browser would, to read its publicly available title and description. No information about you is sent as part of that request beyond what is needed to load the page. Sharing content into Bindle from another app (for example, using the Share button in Safari, YouTube, or Medium) only sends the link you chose to share, nothing else.

Feature settings (Firebase Remote Config): Bindle uses Google Firebase Remote Config to turn certain app features on or off without an app update. When the app starts, it contacts Firebase to check these settings. As part of that request, Firebase receives a randomly generated identifier for this installation of Bindle, along with basic technical information such as the app version, operating system version, device language, and time zone. Like any internet request, this also reveals your device's IP address to Google. This information is not linked to your saved items, notes, or Google account, and Bindle does not use Firebase for advertising or analytics. 4. Backups

Bindle offers optional ways to back up your saved items. None of them send your data to us.

Backup file (Export and Import): When you choose Export backup file, Bindle creates a file containing your saved links and notes, including their titles, links, descriptions, tags, platform, saved date, and read status. You decide where this file goes, for example your device storage, a cloud storage service, email, or AirDrop. The file is not encrypted, so anyone who has a copy can read its contents; please keep it somewhere safe. When you choose Import backup file, Bindle reads the file you select and adds its items to the app. Your recent searches and theme preference are not included in backup files.

Google Drive backup (where available): If you choose to connect Google Drive, Bindle stores a backup of your saved items in a hidden app-data folder in your own Google Drive and keeps it up to date in the background, so you can restore your items on another device signed in to the same Google account. Bindle only requests access to its own app-data folder (Google's drive.appdata permission). It cannot see, open, or change any other files in your Google Drive, and the backup does not appear in your Drive file list. Bindle uses your Google account's email address only to show which account is connected. Your backup is transferred over encrypted connections and stored by Google under Google's Privacy Policy.

You can disconnect Google Drive at any time from Bindle's Profile screen. Disconnecting stops backups and keeps your items on your device. To remove the backup itself, choose Delete cloud backup in Bindle, or delete Bindle's hidden app data from your Google Drive settings. You can also remove Bindle's access at any time from your Google Account's security settings.

Bindle's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We do not use this data for advertising, we do not sell it, and we do not share it with anyone; it is used only to provide the backup feature to you.

Device backups: Depending on your device settings, your phone's own backup service (for example Android backup to your Google account, or an iCloud backup of your iPhone) may include Bindle's data. These backups are managed by your device and its provider, not by Bindle.

5. Deleting Your Data

When you delete an item in Bindle, its content (title, link, description, note, and tags) is removed from your device straight away. Bindle keeps only a small internal record that an item was deleted, with no content, so that the deletion can carry over to your other devices if you use Google Drive backup. These records are removed automatically after 90 days.

Uninstalling Bindle or clearing its app data permanently deletes everything Bindle has stored on your device. It does not delete backup files you have exported or your Google Drive backup; you can delete those separately as described in section 4.

6. Data Protection

Data stored on your device is protected by your device's own security, such as its passcode, fingerprint or face unlock, and disk encryption. Google Drive backups are protected by your Google account's security. Backup files you export are protected only by wherever you choose to keep them.

7. Children's Privacy

Bindle is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.

8. Policy Updates

We may revise this Privacy Policy as Bindle's features change. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date above. Continuing to use the app after an update means you accept the revised policy.
