Your privacy is paramount to us. Pocket Abbreviations is designed from the ground up as a privacy-first, offline-capable mobile abbreviation manager.
- We do not collect, sell, or rent your personal data.
- We do not track your location, browsing habits, or app usage.
- We do not serve third-party advertisements.
- No registration or account creation is required to use the application.
This Privacy Policy explains how data is handled locally on your device and when using optional cloud backup features.
All abbreviations, definitions, category names, notes, and preferences you create or import into the application are stored exclusively on your local device using an encrypted SQLite database managed by Android Room.
- This data remains strictly on your device and is never transmitted to our servers or any third-party advertising network.
The application offers an optional Cloud Backup & Sync feature using Google Drive. If you choose to enable this feature:
- Authentication: Authentication is handled securely via official Google Identity / Credential Manager APIs. Your Google account password is never accessed or stored by the application.
- Drive Scope: The app requests access strictly to its own isolated Application Data folder (`drive.appdata` / `drive.file` scope). It cannot access, read, or modify any other files or folders in your personal Google Drive.
- Cloud Storage: Your abbreviation database is uploaded directly from your device to your personal Google Drive account. We (the developer) have no access to your Google Drive account, your backup files, or your stored data.
When using the Import or Export feature (CSV, Excel XML, JSON):
- The app uses Android's Storage Access Framework (SAF) to let you explicitly pick or create files.
- The app only accesses the specific file selected by you for importing or saving export data.
- No other media, documents, or storage locations on your device are read or scanned.
You have complete control over all data stored within Pocket Abbreviations:
- Local Data Deletion: You can delete individual abbreviations at any time, or use the "Empty Database" feature in Settings to permanently wipe all local records.
- Cloud Backup Deletion: You can delete your Google Drive backup directly within the app settings using the "Delete all Records (Locally & Drive)" option, or directly through your Google Account permissions manager at [myaccount.google.com/permissions](https://myaccount.google.com/permissions).
- App Uninstallation: Uninstalling the app permanently removes all local databases and cached application settings from your device.
The app requests only the minimum required Android permissions:
a) Permission: `INTERNET`
Its Purpose: Required exclusively for optional Google Drive cloud backup and REST API synchronization.
b) Permission: `ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE`
Its Purpose: Used to check connectivity status before attempting Google Drive sync operations.
The app utilizes only the following trusted service providers for core functionality:
- Google Play Services / Google Identity: For user authentication during optional Google Drive sync. [Google Privacy Policy](https://policies.google.com/privacy)
- Google Drive API: For storing backup database files in your personal Google Drive space. [Google Drive Terms of Service](https://www.google.com/drive/terms-of-service/)
Our application does not collect personal information from anyone, including children under the age of 13. The app contains no age-restricted content, advertising, or inappropriate material, making it suitable for users of all ages.
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect app updates or regulatory changes. Any updates will be posted on this page with a revised "Last Updated" date.
