CHAT SHELF PRIVACY POLICY

ChatShelf is a Chrome extension developed and maintained by Hassan Munir. This Privacy Policy explains how ChatShelf handles information when you use the extension.
ChatShelf is designed to help users organize and manage their ChatGPT conversations using folders, tags, pins, favorites, search, notes, floating notes, bulk actions, and related organization tools.
ChatShelf is an independent browser extension and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by OpenAI.
INFORMATION STORED LOCALLY
ChatShelf uses Chrome's local extension storage to provide its organization features.
Depending on the features you use, locally stored information may include:
• Chat identifiers
• Chat titles visible on ChatGPT
• Custom chat titles
• Folder names and folder assignments
• Tags
• Pins and favorites
• Manual chat ordering
• Conversation-specific notes
• Global notes
• Floating note positions and sizes
• Theme and font preferences
• Extension settings
• Onboarding state
• Import and export data
This information is stored locally using chrome.storage.local.
ChatShelf does not send this organizational information to its analytics endpoint.
WEBSITE CONTENT
ChatShelf operates on chatgpt.com and reads certain information displayed on the ChatGPT website when necessary to provide its features.
For example, ChatShelf may read conversation links, chat identifiers, and chat titles so conversations can be displayed and organized within the ChatShelf sidebar.
This information is processed locally in the browser.
ChatShelf does not transmit your ChatGPT conversation content or chat titles to its analytics service.
ANONYMOUS ANALYTICS
ChatShelf uses limited anonymous analytics to understand basic usage of the extension.
After a user first interacts with ChatShelf during a page session, ChatShelf may send one anonymous analytics event for that session.
The event contains only:
• Installation ID: A randomly generated identifier created when ChatShelf is installed.
• Session ID: A randomly generated identifier for that page session.
• Timestamp: The time when the first interaction occurred.
• Event type: Always "session_start".
• Extension version: The installed version of ChatShelf.
These analytics are used only to understand basic usage of ChatShelf and help maintain and improve the extension.
INFORMATION NOT COLLECTED THROUGH ANALYTICS
ChatShelf's analytics system does not collect or transmit:
• ChatGPT conversation content or messages
• Chat titles
• Custom chat titles
• Folder names
• Tag names
• Notes
• Search queries
• ChatGPT account details
• Names
• Email addresses
• Authentication credentials
• Financial or payment information
• Health information
• Browsing history
• Active engagement duration
• Features or actions clicked by the user
• Keystrokes
• Mouse movements
ANALYTICS OPT-OUT
Users can disable anonymous analytics from ChatShelf's Settings.
When analytics are disabled, ChatShelf will not send the session_start analytics event.
THIRD-PARTY SERVICES
ChatShelf uses Google infrastructure, including Google Apps Script, to receive the limited anonymous analytics event described above.
These services are used only as infrastructure for processing ChatShelf analytics.
ChatShelf does not sell user data or provide user data to third parties for advertising, marketing, credit scoring, lending, or unrelated purposes.
DATA SELLING AND ADVERTISING
ChatShelf does not sell user data.
ChatShelf does not use user data for personalized advertising.
ChatShelf does not transfer user data to advertising networks or data brokers.
HOW INFORMATION IS USED
Information handled by ChatShelf is used only for purposes directly related to the extension's functionality, including:
• Organizing ChatGPT conversations
• Saving user preferences and extension settings
• Providing folders, tags, pins, favorites, notes, and search
• Providing ChatShelf's sidebar and workspace features
• Maintaining and improving the extension
• Understanding basic anonymous session usage
User data is not used for purposes unrelated to ChatShelf's primary functionality.
DATA SECURITY
ChatShelf is designed to minimize the amount of information transmitted outside the browser.
Organizational information such as folders, tags, notes, custom titles, and search queries remains stored locally in Chrome rather than being uploaded to a ChatShelf database.
Analytics communications are sent over HTTPS to the configured analytics endpoint.
DATA CONTROL AND DELETION
Users can manage or remove organizational information directly through ChatShelf.
ChatShelf also provides import and export functionality so users can create a local backup of their organizational data.
Removing the extension or clearing its local extension storage may remove locally stored ChatShelf information from the browser.
CHILDREN'S PRIVACY
ChatShelf is a general-purpose productivity extension and is not specifically directed toward children.
ChatShelf does not knowingly collect personal information from children through its analytics system.
CHANGES TO THIS PRIVACY POLICY
This Privacy Policy may be updated if ChatShelf's features, data practices, or legal requirements change.
When material changes are made, the "Last updated" date at the top of this policy will be revised.
