This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect the personal data of users of our mobile application Booktrack. We are committed to safeguarding your privacy and processing your personal information in accordance with applicable laws and the highest privacy standards. By using Booktrack, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.
1. Collection and Use of Personal Data
When you use Booktrack, we may collect certain types of personal data, including but not limited to:
Library Information: Book titles, authors, genres, and covers you add to your digital bookshelf.
Reading Progress & Statistics: Reading logs (start/end times, pages read, duration) and reading goals.
Journal Entries: Personal notes, quotes from books, and your ratings of books.
Usage Data: Technical information about your device (operating system, app version) and usage patterns.
This information is collected to:
Provide you with a personalized library management experience.
Generate reading insights and statistics based on your habits.
Provide AI-powered book recommendations and journal prompts.
Improve the performance and functionality of the app.
Photo & Media Data
If you choose to add a custom photo to a journal entry or book cover:
Photos are stored locally on your device only.
Photos are never uploaded to our servers or shared with third parties.
You have full control to add, change, or delete photos at any time.
2. Data Storage and Privacy
Booktrack is designed with privacy as a priority:
Local Storage: Your primary library data, reading logs, and journal entries are stored locally on your device using SwiftData (Apple's secure local database).
No Accounts: No account creation or login is required – your personal reading history stays on your device.
No Tracking: We do not use tracking or behavioral analytics services to monitor your activity.
3. External Services and Third Parties
While your data is stored locally, Booktrack uses certain external services to provide core features:
Google Books API: When you search for books or scan barcodes, queries are sent to Google Books to retrieve metadata (covers, summaries).
Google Gemini AI: To provide reading insights, book summaries, and personalized recommendations, specific text-based data (such as book titles or your reading stats) is processed securely via Google's Generative AI services.
No personal identity data or photos are sent to these AI services.
Data processed by AI is used only to generate the requested response.
4. Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do not share, sell, or rent your personal data to advertisers or third parties.
Since your data is stored locally on your device:
No data is accessible to the developer or any unauthorized party.
Your personal thoughts and journal entries are private to you.
The only exception would be if required by law enforcement with a valid legal order, though this would require physical access to your device.
5. Subscription Terms and In-App Purchases
Booktrack may offer in-app purchases or paid subscriptions for premium features. Details regarding pricing, billing, and subscription terms will be clearly displayed within the app and governed by Apple's End-User License Agreement (EULA) and the App Store Terms of Service.
Subscriptions are managed via your Apple ID.
Automatic renewal occurs unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
6. Children's Privacy
Booktrack is intended for use by readers and book enthusiasts (ages 13+). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.
7. Data Backup and iCloud
If you have iCloud backup enabled on your device, your Booktrack data may be included in your iCloud backups according to Apple's iCloud terms. This is controlled by your device settings.
To disable this, go to: iPhone Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud > Manage Storage > Backups.
8. Your Rights
You have full control over your data:
Access/Modify: View and edit all your books and logs within the app.
Delete: You can delete individual books, entries, or the entire library at any time.
Portability: Uninstalling the app effectively deletes all local data from your device.
9. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We reserve the right to update or modify this Privacy Policy at any time. Any changes will take effect immediately upon publication in the app. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
