Towards ADDitive manufacturing of MAGnetic components for electrical machines and power converters

Brief description of the project

The development of innovative materials, based on the modern technologies and processes, is the key factor to improve the energetic sustainability and reduce the ecological impact of the electrical equipment. This process involves different kind of research areas, among them, the sustainable mobility, and in particular the development of innovative components for the powertrains and the recharge systems of the electrical vehicles. In this context one of the most interesting and challenging issue is the additive manufacturing of the magnetic components. To face this scientific challenge and provide an evaluable contribution, we have created a team of three units with the specific scientific skills for the intended purposes. The additive manufacturing of different samples, and their experimental characterization, will be implemented by an iterative process to select a specific set of components with the best performances in terms of scalar and vector hysteresis, and of the power losses for both quasi-static and dynamic processes.
