Research Units

University of Udine

The University of Udine was established in 1978 by popular will, a unique example on the Italian scene. Comprising 8 research departments, the university engages over 700 researchers and accommodates more than 15,000 students. Within the scope of the EXTRA EYE project, the University of Udine will harness the scientific knowledge housed within the Machine Learning and Perception Lab (MLP), situated in the Department of Mathematics, Computer Science, and Physics. The dedicated team at the MLP Lab has accumulated extensive expertise in addressing Computer Vision through Machine Learning methodologies, with a specific emphasis on the problem of tracking targets in videos captured by diverse types of cameras, spanning from surveillance to egocentric ones. The laboratory has effectively participated in numerous research initiatives supported by both national and international entities, and it boasts a history of collaborative research and development acitvities with notable industry players.

University of Catania

The University of Catania is the oldest university in Sicily and one of the oldest in Italy. It comprises 17 research departments involving approximately 1,500 researchers and more than 40,000 students. For the EXTRA EYE project, the University of Catania will leverage the scientific expertise of the Image Processing Lab (IPLAB), located within the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science. The structured personnel at IPLAB have gained extensive experience in the fields of Computer Vision and Machine Learning, with a particular focus on applications of Artificial Intelligence for Industry 4.0. These applications are realized through fixed and mobile cameras and wearable First-Person (Egocentric) Vision devices. The laboratory has a track record of important R&D collaborations with leading companies in the industry and has successfully participated in various research projects funded by national and international entities. These projects have facilitated the transfer of academic and research results into industrial products and patents.
