Prof. Giuliano De Felice – Principal Investigator, Uniba Research Unit Leader
Associate Professor of Archaeology at the University of Bari. Expert in archaeology of the contemporary past, digital archaeology, and public heritage. Leads research at POW Camp 65.
Prof. Maria Turchiano – Unifg Research Unit Leader
Associate Professor at the University of Foggia. Specializes in Christian and Medieval archaeology, landscape studies, and participatory research. Coordinates fieldwork and community engagement.

But the project is much more than a university collaboration.
It is made possible by the active participation of students, who join field schools, research campaigns, and public events—learning by doing and contributing their energy and insights.
Citizens, former residents, and eyewitnesses offer memories, documents, and stories that turn historical traces into living heritage.
Cultural associations help bring these stories into the public sphere. Among them, the Associazione Campo 65 plays a key role in preserving the memory of the POW camp at Altamura.
Through their dedication to site care, oral history, and education, they ensure that the past remains a source of connection and reflection for future generations. Together, we are building a shared archaeology—where research, memory, and community meet.
