Traces of forgotten landscapes
Traces of forgotten landscapes
Across Apulia, the landscapes of the 20th century are marked by the traces of lives lived on the edge—ruins of war camps, abandoned farms, forgotten factories, and makeshift settlements. These places may appear silent or forgotten, but they carry powerful stories of conflict and survival, of migration, labour, memory, and identity.
They are not just remnants of the past—they help us understand who we are today.

Understanding the Hidden Stories of Modern Apulia
Understanding the Hidden Stories of Modern Apulia
Modernity leaves many traces—but often in forgotten places. Our research focuses on the landscapes at the edge: rural ruins, abandoned camps, industrial sites, and informal settlements.
These spaces, shaped by war, migration, and economic change, are essential to understanding how history is lived and remembered. We bring these places back into the conversation—and into the future.
