Prime Minister Zhou: The Chronology of a Pivot

My lyrical, non-biased, mixed-race perspective on politics and society primarily manifests through rap and hip-hop music, and more recently, video. For my debut album, Half Arsed, the project has been put on the back burner due to three software developments I am currently working on that I believe are of global importance.

The Password & The Cipher

Having dreams of becoming a rapper and studying music and audio engineering throughout my adolescence and adulthood, conscious rap was always the password and the cipher. I found myself discovering that consciousness is only the humiliation of one person's lived experience, unless you gain knowledge autobiographically with the discovery of a new school of thought or even a new word in the late 2010s.

I registered the name Prime Minister ZHOU with the British Performing Right Society, thinking I could hijack my fame by barking at the political establishment. Since my primary focus was political observation and commentary, based on my own lesser struggles through work and relationships, I found myself asking deeper philosophical questions of the world around me and myself at large.

The Visual Rabbit Hole

Wanting to promote my presence online, I was searching for tools to make visuals one day and began entering rabbit holes of legacy software and cutting-edge tools, with AI becoming a new buzz infecting the internet and destroying it as we knew it. I registered several domain names, struck with thoughts about how to disrupt the synthetic dystopia that was invading our day-to-day lives; another two domains were registered primarily to sustain my personal business as I moved away from the service industry and into transportation.

I found myself with a new set of questions, tracing back to thoughts and discussions of social mobility and transport poverty—two very different concepts that sound as if they are the same problem.

The Industrial Parallel

I revisited Scottish history—a subject that has always been there for me—and drew some parallels to the Industrial Revolution and everything that followed. Scotland's great inventors may have more to answer for than they bargained for; as a people, we have been overlooked by what, for the sake of not arguing, I'll simply put down to the unforeseen plans of other men from down south.

A great war would have taken place perhaps two times before I was born, where we use the phrase “never shall we forget,” yet time and time again leading up to the 1980s, cocaine, old industries, and racial tension were still a thing. This is the environment where I grew up questioning bias, trying to find the non-biased argument to settle both parts of a ridiculous dispute. It led me to believe I am stuck in a limbo where I struggle to find a non-biased mind to stimulate my own. My music has tried to reflect this.

Engineering Homeostasis

I've grown to appreciate software development and alternative solutions—the unique ways that people have used technology to solve problems we created ourselves. I often laugh in tears of pain at the problems we have created and then solved by creating more problems, because the problems that need solving are often over-engineered.

Generally speaking, I ask myself why some nations are labeled as "developing," rather than perhaps pursuing an equilibrium or homeostasis, if you like.

Prime Minister Zhou is an electronic music artist and audio engineer operating from the wettest dance floors and darkest studios of Glasgow, Scotland. An alumnus of SAE with a deep mastery of Low End Theory, Zhou’s sound has evolved from the smoke-filled roots of Glasgow Hip-Hop into a sophisticated, industrial collision of Dark Baile Phonk and Oriental Orchestration.

In 2026, the narrative shifts with the release of the concept album, Half Arsed. Born from a play on the naughties rhyme "Half Caste, Half Cut," the project explores Zhou's own mixed identity through a 50/50 split of human and AI composition.

With Google’s Gemini acting as studio mentor and record executive, Zhou has delved into the bleeding edge of technology. From the early days of Adobe Audition and Fruity Loops to his current command of Ableton Live 12.3 and Reason Studios, Zhou’s work remains the etiquette of merit.
