Why do we have a Pride Players Theater Outreach program?
At its heart, theater is about telling stories, and for LGBTQ people, telling our stories has always been an act of courage and a means of connection.
For so long, our voices have been left out, silenced, or misrepresented. A theater outreach program gives us the chance to reclaim our stories and share them on our terms. It lets us speak openly about who we are, what we’ve been through, and what we dream of.It is not just about performance, it’s about people.
It’s about the young queer kid in the audience who sees someone like them on stage for the first time and realizes they’re not alone.
It’s about the grandparent who walks out of a show with a new understanding of their trans grandchild.
It’s about bringing people together—LGBTQ and allies alike to laugh, cry, and feel something real, together.
It's about providing a safe space where someone could be their true, authentic self while being supported by others.
Theater creates space for empathy. It helps break down walls and open hearts. And for our own community, it’s a space for healing, expression, and joy. For many of us, it’s the first place we’ve ever felt seen.
We want to take that power beyond the stage—into schools, community centers, and places where LGBTQ voices still struggle to be heard. We want to use theater not just to perform, but to educate, uplift, and connect.
This isn’t just about putting on plays. It’s about creating change, one story at a time.
