About Me

Hi!  I’m Aliya!  This is my 25th year teaching.    I love teaching about diversity.  I enjoy teaching my Pre- K class geography as well as different cultures.  By the end of the year, my class can point out countries and continents around the world and tell you information about those places.  I find using an Altas, globe and a world map fun and exciting!  

Two years ago I started a program where I give workshops about diversity and inclusion to teachers at my school.  In these workshops I focus on bringing diversity and inclusion into the classrooms and all areas of the school.  I introduce holidays such as: National Hispanic Heritage Month, Black History, The Lunar New Year, Kwanzaa, International Women's Day, and Indigenous People's Day. This is something I’d like to eventually take to other early childhood schools.

I have a daughter named Makayla who is a junior in college.  She is studying abroad in Spain this semester which gave me the idea to learn Spanish!  I finally got to visit her in Spain and practice what I've learned.

I am certified in Mindfulness Meditation and love bringing it inside and outside the classroom.  I love spending time with my daughter, doing art, writing children’s books, traveling and gardening.
