For Jammers

How to prepare for the jam?

Here you can find information for all the jammers: on-site, remote, teams and first-timers!

All of our communication takes place on our Discord server. For infomartion on how to join, check your info email!

ON-SITE JAMMERS

If you start feeling unwell before or during Pride Jam, we strongly advise you to stay home. You cancel the on-site ticket and get the remote one instad on Evenbrite. Most importantly, remember to take care of yourself :)

  • Bring face masks if possible.

  • Bring whatever you need for making a game: computer, art equipment, musical instruments and the like. Also bring an extension cord (marked with your name). We have tables, chairs, electricity, and wi-fi for you.

  • A good set of headphones! And a good microphone if you have one -- so you can socialise well with Remote Jammers.

  • Your own lanyard if possible, otherwise we will provide you with one. If you have lanyards from previous FGJ events, but don't need them -- bring them back and we'll happily collect them to be reused.

  • You can bring your own food and snacks to the venue, but we will also order you some pizza during the jam days and there will be coffee/tea everyday. If you have any severe airborne allergies, get in touch with us before the event via Discord.

REMOTE JAMMERS

  • We will stream the Jam Programme on Twitch

  • If you want to make an appearance in the jam stream, let us know via Discord channel!

  • For socialising, we recommend you have a good set of headphones and a microphone ready.

CODE OF CONDUCT

Note that Pride Jam is hosted under our Code of Contuct, and this concerns both on-site and remote jammers. Please read through the code carefuly before the event.

Team Formation

You are welcomed to join the jam on your own or with an already formed team, but if you are lookg for teammates, be sure to join our team formation and brainstorming session on Discord on Friday at 18:00, right after the opening ceremony.

You are free to decide before the event who you want to work with, but we ask you to keep your teams open to new members.

You can also be a member of several teams (recommended for audio/music roles), or jam alone if you’re feeling up to it!

PS - We will make sure you’ll find a team if you want one, so no need to worry if you don’t have a team already! If you join us later, the channel #looking-for-teammates on Discord is there for you to find collaborators.

First-time jammer?

First time making a game, and not sure where to start? No worries, a game jam is a great place to try your hand at making games for the first time. The jam is not a competition, and there is no pressure, and no quality or standard your game needs to meet. We will help you find a team, and you’re welcome to ask questions on the Discord - jammers are happy to help!

If you’ve made or want to learn how to make visual art or music, you can contribute those to a game! You can also contribute voice acting, writing, or game design to your team. It could be a good idea to take a look at some software ahead of time.

Here’s a list from Global Game Jam, and some other basic recommendations:

If you’re aiming to be the one programming the game, there are also a bunch of simple-to-use game making tools with free versions available, like bitsy, Twine, Ren’Py and Construct 3. If you're comfortable with writing code, tools like Godot Engine or Löve might be more your thing - or a commercial game engine like Unity or Unreal Engine.

PS - Join the workshops on Thursday at 18:00 to get some Preparation and Inspiration! It can feel a bit overwhelming and scary at the start to look into new software, so don’t worry - there are no prerequisites for a jam, and it’s a great opportunity to learn something new!
