Nathan Hays ("we", "us", or "our") built the Cryptic Text Messenger app ("the App") as a free application. This page informs you of our policies regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of information when you use the
App.
INFORMATION THE APP ACCESSES
The App requires the following device permissions to function as an SMS/MMS messaging application:
- SMS Permissions (Send, Receive, Read): Required to send, receive, and display text messages. This is the core functionality of the App.
- Contacts Permission: Used solely to display contact names alongside conversations. Contact data is not transmitted or stored outside your device.
- Notifications Permission: Used to alert you of incoming messages.
- Internet Permission: Used for MMS (multimedia message) functionality.
DATA STORAGE
All message data, conversation history, and encryption keys are stored locally on your device using an on-device database. We do not operate servers, cloud storage, or any backend infrastructure. No data leaves your device
except standard SMS/MMS messages sent through your device's cellular network to their intended recipients.
ENCRYPTION
The App offers optional end-to-end encryption for messages using AES-256-GCM with PBKDF2 key derivation. Encryption passphrases are stored locally on your device and are never transmitted to us or any third party.
DATA COLLECTION AND SHARING
We do not collect, transmit, store, or share any personal data, usage analytics, crash reports, or advertising identifiers. The App contains no analytics SDKs, advertising frameworks, or third-party tracking tools.
We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your information to any third party.
THIRD-PARTY SERVICES
The App does not integrate with any third-party services that collect user data.
DATA RETENTION AND DELETION
Since all data is stored locally on your device, you have full control over your data at all times. You can delete individual messages, entire conversations, or uninstall the App to remove all associated data from your device.
CHILDREN'S PRIVACY
The App does not knowingly collect any personal information from children under 13. Since no personal data is collected from any user, the App is compliant with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
SECURITY
We take the security of your messages seriously. The App provides optional AES-256-GCM encryption for message content. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute
security of messages sent over cellular networks.
CHANGES TO THIS PRIVACY POLICY
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically.
