Venue: Ashton Methodist Church, Wellington Road, Ashton, Preston PR2 1BU Exact Location Here
Day/Date: 2nd Tuesday of each month (10:00 – 12:00), from September to June giving 10 sessions.
The aim of the Information Technology group is to help members deal with the challenges posed by ever changing technology. We will look at the useful and interesting aspects of Information Technology while responding to the needs of our members. We will endeavour to publish the topics to be covered in the weekly newsletter and inform group members via email. Members are welcome to attend all the sessions or just the ones they feel would be useful. The sessions will consist of talks, discussions and demonstrations of software. At the sessions members will not be required to undertake any practical tasks, so there is no need to bring a laptop.
We are happy to help individual members with their technology related problems, if we are able.
Next Meeting
The next meeting of the Information Technology group will take place on Tuesday 14th January. Anyone is welcome to attend our group meetings.
The topics for the next meeting are:
Do I need a Computer?
With the prevalence of powerful smartphones and tablets, do we still need traditional computers? We'll explore how affordable equipment can transform a mobile phone or tablet into a functional laptop.
Artificial Intelligence
Although we discussed AI last year, the technology has advanced significantly since then. We'll examine current applications of AI and demonstrate how tools like Copilot and ChatGPT can be utilized.
LibreOffice
LibreOffice is a free office suite of programs. It includes a word processor (Writer), a spreadsheet (Calc), presentation software (Impress) and database software (Base). It is a good, free alternative to purchasing Microsoft Office 365. If you wish to install LibreOffice see the link here
When you open the Libre Office Page, Click the link on the right "How do I install Libre Office" ? Follow the instruction from here paying note to whether your PC is 32 bit or 64 bit. Then you will know which Download you need.
