As a final send-off message for this unit, you will likely participate in a variety of activities and complete a number of tasks in your role as a research assistant (RA). These activities are designed to give you first-hand experience with the research process. At times, you’ll feel bogged down by the details and might feel stress or pressure, but remember to keep perspective on the bigger picture that you are a student and that you are there to receive training. You won’t know many things, and that’s okay, that’s by design. You’re there to learn. Ask lots of questions. It’s okay to make mistakes as long as you own up to them and learn from them. Your position as an RA might even lead you down a path where you do research as a career. You’ll encounter many people on this path who act like they know more than you (and many others). Don’t pay attention to these folks. Stay focused on your own journey and run your own race.
