Bed bugs love warmer temperatures so summer is their peak season. They are also more likely when people travel, making them more vulnerable to these hitchhiking parasites. They are difficult to eliminate, so travelers should make sure to check their accommodations before staying the night.
This week's featured spider is the crab spider. These tiny spiders can be found hiding among the greenery and foliage waiting to ambush any prey they find. Some species are capable to change their coloration in a Chameleon like fashion. This is a great adaptation for a spider who hunts primarily on flowers. Their characteristic appearance is similar to a crab. They have large front legs that are extended to the sides with a sideways walk. They are carnivores just like all spiders. They can even overpower much larger prey. They are harmless to humans, and they do not have any venom that could cause harm to us. If you're walking among flowers, be alert for subtle movements. You may just catch a glimpse at a crab spider hunting or living the best life possible.
BOLAS SPIDERS can be found all over the United States. Missouri is home for four species. Each one can be considered a mimic. Some look like snails and others like bird droppings. I was initially confused by this one. They are not web spinners, and they belong to the same class as orb weavers. Instead they release a smell similar to that released by certain moths to attract a new mate. The bolas release a strand made of silk that has a globular of sticky silk at the end. This she uses to grab her prey and make it look like a lasso when the moth approaches. The South American Gauchos use the bolas to throw at the animals' legs, effectively tripling them. After mating, the male offspring will produce many egg sacs. In the winter, the spiderlings are born. This is the unusual part about it: The male offspring. They hatch as adults! They are already capable of mating, and no maturing is necessary. However, the females must finish their growth process. These tiny, half-inch-long females can be found hanging out on the leaves of bushes or other plants. Although they look like poop (or snails), a careful eye could reveal one of Missouri’s most fascinating spiders.

Rodents can spread disease and cause property damage. It is time to act if you spot a rodent living or dead, find its droppings, or observe damage to property and food supplies.
Rodent Control
Once they have gained entry to your home via the foundation, the rodents will be able to access your plumbing behind the walls. These pipes will allow them full access to your house or apartment. To search for food, they will use unsealed piping to access your kitchen and bathroom fixtures. Food left on countertops or in pantries is at risk of becoming contaminated. You must immediately get rid of them. Preferred Pest Control has the expertise to remove rats and mice from your business or home. Our rodent control expertise has been accumulated over 50 years. We also perform highly effective exclusion work.
Inspection
It is essential to determine how rodents are entering your property or building. Our rodent control specialists will inspect and identify entry points to your structure. During the inspection, they will identify which species are causing the issue and where they are nesting.
Treatment
Once the inspection is complete, we will start treatment. There are many options for treating a mouse or rat problem. Each house and business are different, so our treatment plan is custom-tailored to deliver the best results. To eliminate rodents quickly, we use a combination traps and baits strategically placed around the property.

How to keep your home safe from spiders this fall
Preferred Pest Control reminds homeowners, as autumn begins to change and fall decorations are appearing, that pest-proofing can help protect your home and keep you healthy through the winter months. The spiders of this season come in many shapes and sizes, and they spin their webs in the most innocuous places. Spiders are often found around doors and windows, along with your eaves or overhangs, as well as on swings and other outdoor structures. As the temperature drops and fall gets closer, spiders will seek shelter in warm areas like your basement, garage and storage area. There are no restrictions when it comes time for a spider to set up its winter home.
Use these tips and tricks when working in these spaces to keep spiders from getting into your home.
Use gloves when landscaping or moving around stored items.
To avoid attracting flying insects such as moths, keep outside lights off. Gathering insects around lights can be like a spider's all-you-can-eat buffet.
For spiders to avoid getting into your home, seal any cracks in your foundation.
To prevent spider bites, be sure to use these tips and techniques when working in these spaces.
Make sure to vacuum regularly. Most vacuums have the power to kill a web spider or eliminate any egg sacs.
You can also add spider repelling plants to the exterior of your home.
Sticky traps are best placed in darkened areas. This will not only stop the spiders from getting away, but will also help you identify which areas of your home are seeing the most activity.
Reduce their food source. Spiders will eat other small insects. Spiders can be eliminated if other insects are removed.
Spiders are not always scary, although they can be very disturbing. They are also attracted by houseplants and hunt other common household insect such as beetles, moths, and beetles. Spiders can be used to control flies and earwigs as well as cockroaches. Most spiders are harmless and can be easily collected into a container and moved outside. It is important to know that there are two types. If they get startled, the Brown Recluse spiders and Black Widow spiders bite. You should be cautious when you go to an area that hasn't been disturbed in a while. Put away any holiday decorations you don't need, such as the winter boots or the ornaments that were stored in your garage.
This is a busy year for spiders, and insects. Stink bugs and Asian beetles, which are seasonal pests, will bring a feast for spiders. You can take steps now to ensure your home or workplace is spider-free this fall. Contact us today to learn more about spider prevention and control.
