Hello,
My name is Preeti Kumari. I am a linguist.
I work at SRM University (Andhra Pradesh) as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Literature and Languages.
Prior to entering the world of teaching, I did my postdoctoral research at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona. I worked on the naturalness of human-machine interaction under the guidance of Prof. Martina Wiltschko.
I got my PhD in 2023 from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi. My thesis is titled 'Honorificity Agreement in Maithili - A Meso-Level Comparison with Magahi and Bangla' (I'd be happy to share a copy with you if you are interested in reading my work). At IIT Delhi, I worked under the supervision of Prof. Pritha Chandra. You can check out the cool research that Pritha and her team do at SynDAC, the syntax group at IIT Delhi.
I am interested in understanding the interface of syntax and pragmatics through the lens of 'honorificity' (politeness) in Indian languages, specifically of the Eastern Indo-Aryan sub-family. I am also interested in other aspects of these languages, such as classifiers, reduplication, and differential subject marking.
