Privacy Policy — Preceptor
Effective date: January 1, 2026
Last updated: June 20, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Preceptor ("we", "us", "our") handles information in connection with your use of our applications.
This policy applies to every application we publish — every app released under our Apple App Store and Google Play developer accounts, whether or not it carries the Preceptor name. That currently includes independent study tools that help candidates prepare for healthcare certification and licensing examinations, and casual games, and it automatically covers any new app we release. In this policy, "our apps" and "the app" mean any of them, and a current list is available on our App Store and Google Play developer pages.
We are based in Ontario, Canada. We have written this policy to be clear and honest. If anything is unclear, please contact us — see Contact us.
By downloading, accessing, or using any of our apps, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy.

1. Summary (the short version)
Our apps do not require you to create an account.
We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or precise location.
Your progress is stored only on your device — we do not receive a copy.
We do not display advertising, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.
We do not sell or rent your personal information to anyone.
The only times information leaves your device are: (a) if you use an optional AI feature, where an app offers one, and (b) when you make a purchase — both explained in detail below.
Not every app has every feature described below. Where a section applies only to certain apps, it says so, and where an app does not have that feature, nothing in that section happens.
2. Information we handle
2.1 Information you provide directly
Our apps have no sign-up or login, so we do not ask for or collect personal details such as your name or email. If you choose to email us for support, we will have whatever information you include in that message.
2.2 Your progress and settings (stored locally on your device)
To remember your progress between sessions, our apps save information on your device only, using local on-device storage. Depending on the app, this includes:
in study apps: which questions you have answered and whether you answered correctly, questions you have flagged or saved for review, and your scores and progress counts;
in games: your day, level, score, in-game currency and items, and which upgrades, characters, story chapters and cosmetic themes you have unlocked;
in any app: your settings, such as whether sound is muted, and whether you have unlocked premium content.
This data stays on your device. We do not upload, transmit, or store a copy of it on our servers, and it is not connected to your identity. You can clear it at any time from within the app — using a "Reset progress" option, or by starting a new game or new session where the app offers that — or by uninstalling the app.
2.3 AI features (optional, and only in apps that offer them)
Some of our apps include an optional AI feature that can generate explanations or other content. When — and only when — you request this, the relevant content you are working on is transmitted, through a secure relay, to our third-party AI provider to generate a response, which is then returned to you. This content:
is used solely to produce the material you asked for;
is not tied to your real-world identity by us;
is not used by us to build a profile about you.
If you prefer not to transmit any content, you can simply not use the feature; the rest of the app works without it.
Apps that do not offer an AI feature transmit no content of any kind. Several of our apps are fully usable offline, in airplane mode, with no network connection at any point.
2.4 Purchase information
Our apps are free to download. Some features or content may require an optional purchase — for example, a one-time unlock, a subscription, or a consumable pack of in-app currency.
Purchases are processed by the app store from which you downloaded the app (the Apple App Store or Google Play) together with our purchase-management provider, RevenueCat, Inc. Payment is handled entirely by those services. We never receive or store your credit/debit card number or full payment details. We may receive a confirmation that a purchase occurred, along with an anonymous purchase/transaction identifier, so the app can recognize your purchase and keep content unlocked — including if you reinstall, using the app's "Restore Purchases" option.
This anonymous purchase record is the only information about you that we hold anywhere other than your own device, and it is not linked to your name, email, or any other identifier.
2.5 Automatically collected technical and diagnostic data
The app distribution platforms (the Apple App Store and Google Play) and the services we use may automatically collect limited, largely aggregated technical data — such as crash logs, app version, general device model, and app performance/installation statistics — in accordance with their own policies. We use this only to keep our apps stable and functioning. We do not use it to identify you personally.
2.6 What we do NOT collect
We do not collect your contacts, photos, microphone or camera input, precise GPS location, health records, or any special-category personal data. We do not collect usage analytics or behavioural data. Our apps contain no social features, no chat, no user profiles, and no user-generated content. Our apps do not track you across other apps or websites.
3. Advertising and tracking
Our apps show no advertising of any kind. They contain no third-party advertising software, no analytics or attribution software, and no cross-app tracking technologies. We do not use the Apple Advertising Identifier (IDFA) and we never present the App Tracking Transparency prompt, because there is nothing to track.
4. How we use information
We use the limited information described above to:
provide each app's core functionality and remember your progress on your device;
generate AI content when you request it, in apps that offer it;
process and restore your purchase and keep premium content unlocked;
maintain, secure, debug, and improve our apps;
comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms.
We do not use your information for advertising or for sale to third parties.
5. Legal bases for processing
Where Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA) applies, we handle information based on your consent and for purposes a reasonable person would consider appropriate in the circumstances. Where the EU/UK GDPR applies to users in those regions, our legal bases are:
Performance of a contract — to deliver the app and your purchase;
Consent — for optional AI features (you choose to use them);
Legitimate interests — to keep our apps secure, stable, and functioning, balanced against your rights.
You may withdraw consent (for example, by not using an AI feature, or by uninstalling the app) at any time.
6. Service providers and third parties
We rely on a small number of reputable providers ("processors") who handle data only as needed to provide their service:
PROVIDER WHAT THEY DO
Apple Inc. App distribution, billing, and diagnostic data for apps downloaded from the Apple App Store. Governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
Google LLC / Google Play App distribution, billing, and diagnostic data for apps downloaded from Google Play. Governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
RevenueCat, Inc. Manages and validates in-app purchases. Receives an anonymous purchase identifier; does not receive your card details.
Each provider operates under its own privacy policy. We encourage you to review them. We do not authorize any of these providers to use your information for their own independent marketing.
7. International data transfers
We are based in Canada, and some of our service providers are located in the United States or other countries. This means information involved in AI features or purchases may be processed outside your country of residence, in jurisdictions whose data-protection laws may differ from your own. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as the providers' contractual protections) for such transfers.
8. Data sharing and disclosure
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We may disclose information only:
to the service providers listed above, to operate our apps;
if required by law, regulation, legal process, or enforceable governmental request;
to protect the rights, property, or safety of our users, the public, or us;
in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, in which case we will require the recipient to honor this Privacy Policy.
9. Data retention
Because your progress lives on your device, you control its lifetime — resetting progress in the app or uninstalling it removes the data. We do not maintain our own database of your activity. Purchase records and diagnostic data are retained by the respective providers (Apple, Google, RevenueCat) according to their policies and our legal/accounting obligations.
10. Security
We design our apps to keep your data on your device and to route any purchase or AI requests through established providers that use industry-standard encryption in transit. While no method of electronic storage or transmission is completely secure, we take reasonable and appropriate measures to protect your information.
11. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict the processing of your personal information, and to data portability or to object to certain processing. Because we hold very little personal information about you, you can exercise most control directly in the app:
Reset your progress — clears your locally stored data, using the app's reset or new-game option where one is offered;
Don't use AI features — prevents any content from being transmitted, in apps that offer them;
Uninstall — removes all locally stored data from your device.
For purchase data, you can also use your Apple or Google Play account controls. To make any other request, contact us using the details below, and we will respond as required by applicable law. Users in the EU/UK have the right to lodge a complaint with their local data-protection authority; users in Canada may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
We do not "sell" or "share" personal information as those terms are defined under California law (CCPA/CPRA).
12. Children's privacy
Some of our apps — our exam-preparation study tools — are intended for healthcare trainees and professionals and are not directed at children. Others, such as our casual games, are rated for general audiences and may be played by children.
None of our apps are designed to collect anything from anyone. Regardless of a user's age, our apps:
require no account, no sign-in, and no email address;
collect no personal information whatsoever;
contain no advertising, no third-party analytics, and no cross-app tracking;
contain no chat, no social features, and no user-generated content;
store all progress locally on the device only.
The only exception is optional in-app purchases, which are processed by Apple or Google and are subject to the parental controls, purchase approval, and Ask-to-Buy settings those platforms provide. We encourage parents and guardians to use them.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
13. Local storage and cookies
Our apps use on-device local storage to save your progress, as described in section 2.2. Our apps do not use advertising cookies or cross-app tracking technologies.
14. Third-party links
Our apps or this policy may reference third-party services. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those third parties; their policies govern your use of their services.
15. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as our apps evolve — for example, when features are added, new apps are released, or providers change. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice. Your continued use of our apps after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
16. Disclaimers
Independence. All of our apps are independent works. They are not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or otherwise connected to any college, examination board, licensing authority, certification body, television series, film, publisher, studio, brand, or other organization — including, without limitation, any organization that administers or governs an examination our study apps help you prepare for. Any resemblance to existing works is unintentional.
Educational content. Content in our study apps is provided for exam-preparation and educational purposes only and does not constitute medical or professional advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Always rely on authoritative clinical sources and professional judgment in patient care.
Entertainment content. Our games, including their characters, story, artwork and music, are original creations made for those apps and are provided for entertainment purposes only.
