On this page you'll learn about the materials you'll need for our Math 176 asynchronous online class. You'll also learn how to get started in Canvas.
In lieu of a textbook we'll use the online learning materials available in our Interactive Precalculus on Canvas course. This is the Canvas course that the Cuyamaca math faculty developed for our Math 176 class - and it's free!
A graphing calculator such as the TI-84, TI-89, or Voyage 200 is required for this class. If you do not already own a graphing calculator, contact the Cuyamaca College Library to learn how to check out a TI-84 for the duration of this class (free of charge). Note: some students have successfully completed this course by using Desmos.com (a web-based graphing calculator) along with a scientific calculator such as the TI-30XIIS in lieu of a handheld graphing calculator. If you prefer to use Desmos along with a scientific calculator, please do so. Throughout the course, I provide directions for both the TI-84 calculator and for Desmos.
In this class, teaching and learning occur in an asynchronous 100% online environment. You will need reliable internet access and a computer to work through our materials on Canvas, watch videos, and meet with me on Zoom should you choose to visit during my student hours or schedule a one-on-one appointment.
