What is a JR and when is it due? A Judicial Review hearing is a court proceeding that takes place approximately every 6 months or sooner. You will be required to email your draft copy of the JR document to your Child Advocate Manager (CAM) approximately four weeks prior to the scheduled court date. Your draft report must be emailed to your CAM as a "Word" document. Our Office exclusively uses "Word" and will not have the ability to to edit and forward other formats. The exact date your report is due is listed In Optima under the “Hearings” tab and next to the JR court date.
Where do I start? You can start by reviewing the above power point, it is an excellent source of information. You can request a JR Template from your CAM or download a 'Word" document template of your County's respective JR from the "Forms" page of this website. While you are on the "Forms" page you can use the green typed areas to help you develop your JR.
Will I receive any assistance? For your initial JR it is likely that your CAM will set up an "Advocacy Review Meeting" by phone to discuss your previously forwarded JR draft copy with your entire Advocacy team. The team should include you, your CAM, and the GAL Attorney. The team will discuss and assist you in developing a legally sufficient document that will be filed with the case's respective county clerk and provided to the Judge and other parties to the case prior to court.
Will I see my final report before court? Please be aware that your Child Advocate Manager (CAM) may make some changes to your draft report prior to forwarding it to your GAL Attorney who also may make some changes. If you are not available to sign this document by the filing deadline, your CAM will sign the document on your behalf, and upload the final copy to Optima prior to the JR date. It should be noted that it is not the intention of the GAL Office to change the intent of your recommendations without your knowledge only to make them court ready.
