MORE INFO
The Chairperson of the PRDTU Social Justice Committee is the presiding officer of the committee and is required to submit regular reports to the PRDTU Executive Committee (By-Law 5.7).
The Social Justice Committee Chairperson also sits on the PRDTU Executive Committee and is the Social Justice representative on the PRDTU Collective Bargaining Committee (By-Law 6.4).
The Chairperson is elected at the Annual General Meeting of the PRDTU (AGM) (By-Law 6.5).
Members of the PRDTU Social Justice Committee are elected by each staff and by District Staff (meaning that each school or site elects a member to the PRDTU Social Justice Committee) (By-Law 6.3).
The PRDTU Social Justice Committee is one of three permanent Standing Committees of the local union (the others are PRDTU Collective Bargaining Committee and PRDTU Professional Development Committee) (By-Law 6.2). (These three Standing Committee differ from the Executive Committee and the Grievance Committee, which are also ongoing committees of the local union but are covered by different by-laws.)
Standing committees submit reports at General Meetings of the PRDTU (By-Law 3.4). These may include recommendations and findings (By-Law 3.6.1).
Meetings of Standing Committees must be called in accordance with the same process for meetings of the Executive Committee (By-Law 3.10).
All meetings of the PRDTU, including PRDTU Social Justice Committee meetings, are open to all PRDTU members. Guests must be approved by a resolution of the committee (By-Law 3.11).
All meetings of the PRDTU, including all PRDTU Social Justice Committee meetings, are conducted according to Robert's Rules of Order (so long as the rules of order do not violate other provisions of the Constitution and By-Laws) (By-Law 3.12).
