Dr. P. R. Chauhan is currently serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology Patiala, since November 2024. Prior to this, he worked as an IRD Early Doc Fellow at IIT Delhi. Dr. Chauhan earned his Ph.D. from the Department of Energy Science and Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, in 2024. His doctoral research, titled “Green Adsorbents and Optimization Strategies for Adsorption-Based Refrigeration Systems,” was conducted under the supervision of Prof. S. K. Tyagi, with caretaking guidance from Prof. S. C. Kaushik. His research journey began during his M.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering at NIT Jalandhar, where he worked on “Analysis of Entropy Generation in Laminar Convective Fluid Flow” under the supervision of Prof. Rajan Kumar and Prof. R. S. Bharj. He completed his B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering from BIET Jhansi under the mentorship of Prof. Sanjay Agarwal, and did his Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from Government Polytechnic Khurja. Dr. Chauhan is an active member of several scientific societies, including ASME, ASHRAE, IAS, ISHRAE, ISHMT, and ISME.
His current research focuses on waste-to-value-added products such as biochar, bio-adsorbents, and functionalized sorbents for sustainable energy applications, including adsorption refrigeration, atmospheric water harvesting, carbon capture, desalination, hydrogen and energy storage, and water purification. He is also interested in renewable energy, passive cooling, thermal energy storage, microchannel design, and heat-transfer enhancement. His work spans thermodynamic and hydrodynamic modeling, CFD, microfluidics, and numerical optimization of thermal systems. He develops mathematical models based on the First and Second Laws of Thermodynamics and explores AI/ML techniques for multi-objective optimization.
Prithvi is keen to expand his research into related areas and contribute to innovative energy and sustainability solutions through active and meaningful collaborations.
