The Legend of Zelda!
by Mr. Pratt
Introduction
How weird would it be if you had a video game where the title of the video game had the name of a character who you don’t actually play? That is true for one of the best games ever!! The Legend of Zelda! In this blog we will be talking about that game. Let’s go!
History
First let’s talk about history. The Legend of Zelda series has been around for 40 years! The original The Legend of Zelda was released by Nintendo in Japan in 1986 and came to North America in 1987. The series was created by legendary game designers Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka, with Miyamoto partly inspired by the adventures he had exploring the countryside as a kid. Since then, Zelda has grown into one of Nintendo's biggest franchises, with games appearing on nearly every generation of Nintendo consoles. The series has also constantly experimented with new ideas, from the jump to 3D in Ocarina of Time to the enormous open world of Breath of the Wild.
Characters
Next, let’s talk about the characters. At the center of most Zelda games are three important characters: Link, Zelda, and Ganon. Link is the hero you usually control, recognizable by his sword, shield, and famously green outfit—although the newer games have changed up his wardrobe quite a bit. Princess Zelda is much more than the person Link needs to rescue. Depending on the game, she can be a princess, a scholar, a magical warrior, or even secretly fight alongside Link. Finally, Ganon, sometimes appearing in his human form as Ganondorf, is the series' most famous villain. He is obsessed with gaining power and taking control of Hyrule, which usually puts him directly in Link and Zelda's path. Let’s move on!
Story
Finally, let’s talk about the story. The exact story changes from game to game, but most Zelda adventures follow Link as he explores the kingdom of Hyrule, solves puzzles, conquers dungeons, collects new items and abilities, and fights against evil threatening the kingdom. The games often involve the Triforce, an ancient relic representing Power, Wisdom, and Courage, which are closely associated with Ganon, Zelda, and Link. The series has told this basic battle between good and evil in dozens of different ways, but Ocarina of Time may still be the GOAT. Released for the Nintendo 64 in 1998, it took Zelda into a fully 3D world and gave players an epic adventure across two different time periods. There have been some incredible Zelda games since, but Ocarina of Time is still the one to beat in my book.
Conclusion
So, you can see from this, the Legend of Zelda is awesome! Even though you play Link, not Zelda, it is the best game ever made! I hope you enjoyed reading about it!
