Music
Music has long been an integral part of my life. It follows into me through the culture of bhajans in my family. My beginnings were of a 7 year old boy training in Carnatic Classical for 3 years in the temple town of Guruvayoor, Kerala. Then, my father would get posted to Nashik, Maharastra and I would be introduced to the world of Hindustani Classical Music. For the next 4 years over my stay in Nashik and Mumbai, I continued to learn Chota Khayals in the modern day music classrooms clearing Praveshika exams of Gandharav Mahavidyalaya of Music. The lessons would however fail to quench my thirst for music. The eventual pursuits for employment and a degree in engineering would inevitably bring a disconnect.
Destiny however had different plans. Years later, I would be blessed to learn under the tutelage of the great maestro and doyen of Jaipur-Atrauli Gharana, Pt. Rajshekhar Mansur. Jaipur-Atrauli is known for it's rich repertoire, unique rhythmic singing style, and highly cerebral and simultaneously divine approach to Khayal form of music. Pt. Rajshekhar Mansur is among the rarest of the artists of this lineage to have imbibed the tradition in its entirety. I am blessed for I continue to bask under the wisdom and mastery of my Guruji.
