Dr. Namagiri Babji is a remarkable figure whose journey bridges rigorous law enforcement with compassionate psychological counselling. Born in 1956 in Kovvur and raised in Nidadavolu, he earned the title “Mr. Nidadavolu” early on. Babji began his career in law enforcement in 1989, rising through roles like statistical officer and deputy superintendent of police (DySP) after clearing the Sub-Inspector exam. During his police service, he devoted himself to rigorous academic pursuits—earning MAs in Psychology, Philosophy, and Economics via distance mode while on duty. Despite requiring night shifts and studying in ATM booths, he persevered. His dedication is inspiring.
After retirement in 2016, Dr. Babji pivoted to psychology, completing a PhD exploring occupational stress among police personnel and coping mechanisms, becoming the first to do so in Telugu states and one of a few nationally. His unique background—surviving a 1991 Maoist attack, recovering from severe injuries, and emerging with an optimistic outlook—adds depth to his counseling approach.
At his clinic in Rajahmundry (formerly Rajamahendravaram), Prasanna Mind & Personality Counselling Center, he offers free or subsidized services to the poor and needy. He is well known for helping individuals—including over 600 people and 32 former suicide attempters—regain mental stability. He also delivers motivational talks to students at local colleges and runs a yoga and meditation center at his residence in Kolamuru, inspired by Bendapudi Ashramam.
