Project Details:
Certain payloads in space applications require very high pointing accuracy. This project aims to develop a high-precision Compliant Mechanism that could orient a payload along two mutually perpendicular axes with accuracy within 20 nano radians. The compliant mechanism was developed for required structural stiffness and is capable to withstand loads that the system with experience during the launch of a satellite.

Design of the Complaint System
Project Summary:
A novel mechanism was realized for the compliant system by carefully identifying the load paths for the system under launch loads so that the flexures of the compliant system are not overly stressed. The parametric optimization was carried out for certain desired performance objectives by varying certain design parameters. The developed system has the following advantages over conventional mechanisms:
•Zero Backlash.
•Greasing or lubrication-free operation.
•Longer operation life.
•Larger thermal range of operation. (Simpler Thermal Design)
•Light weight.
Advanced manufacturing techniques like EDM and Metal 3D printing were used to manufacture the realized system.
