Here, I shall make entries of the movies that I have watched and liked.
1. Deadpool 1 and 2: My absolutely favourite superhero movies. Not too big on superhero movies otherwise.
2. Jack Reacher
3. The Cell: A typical dystopia movie. Hated it. Watched it only for John Cusack and Samuel Jackson, and they are the only saving grace of the movie. Weak plot.
4. Cold Skin: A-creature-unknown kind of movie. A desolate island, an abandoned weatherman's hut and a lonely a lighthouse keeper, surrounded by miles of ocean, welcome the new weatherman. I liked the movie for its concept. Not very good though. The relationship between the creature and human was completely unnecessary and repulsive. The plot leaves the angle of the creatures unexplored and unexplained.
5. Bourne 1, 2, 3 and 4: Director's interpretation of Robert Ludlum's novels. Matt Damon shines as Jason Bourne. The movie just overdoes the camera shakes and cut-to-impact shots, which is the weakness of the direction of action. Even some of the not-so-renowned Chinese martial arts movies show action more clearly than the Bourne series. Renner did a great job in filling the boots of Damon as Bourne in the final movie. But no offence to the great acting skills of Mr. Renner, Damon will live on in my memory as the authentic Jason Bourne.
6. Contagion: Watched it for Matt Damon. Learnt from the movie that you should avoid touching your face to avoid getting infected with flu virus.
7. Knock knock: Watched in March 2020. Keanu Reeves should have not worked in this movie. Ana de Aramas looks beautiful.
8. The Grand Seduction: I enjoyed every minute of this movie. Comedy movie. Specially loved the female lead, the post-mistress.
9. Pushing Tin: One of the rare movies on Air Traffic Controllers.
10. Shutter Island: I can't, for the love of god, understand what is so good about this movie.
12. Hurt Locker: Loved the movie. Rare perspective of a bomb disposal technician. Also, kudos to the director for being a rare female director to get the Oscar. Renner shone bright!
13. Collateral: Fox is good. Tom Cruise, not so much.
14. Inception: Fantastic.
15. The Expendables: Yuck.
16. The Wall: John Cena is there only to pull the crowd.
1. Laal Kaptaan: Saif Ali Khan looks phenomenal in this movie. Loved the character played by Zoya Akhtar. I loved the scenes with the Pindaris. Their dakkhani accents were spot on.
2. Special 26: Marvellous movie with superb acting from Anupam Kher. Akshay Kumar shone as usual. Kajal Aggarwal as the wife of Manoj Bajpai had hardly any dialogues, but acted well.
3. Ab tak 56: Nana Patekar flourishes in this kind of character. The movie establishes the middle-class-ness of the protagonist with simple things, like how Nana Patekar says that he executed two people in Pune, and then while on the way back to home, he bought 'laukii' as instructed by his wife.
Ab tak 56 part 2 was a monumental failure. The USP of Nana patekar's character in part 1 was his nonchalance and equanimity to the tragedies that befall him or tragedies he has to befall on others (killing people in encounters or 'breaking' them in lock-ups). This very trait which is the essence of Nana Patekar's character in part 1 has been so mercilessly robbed by the director of part 2, when he shows Nana Patekar's character not crying but bawling his eyes out on the death of his son. There was also an addition of a female character played by Gul Panag. She acts well despite it being a character that was wholly superfluous, if not damaging, to the movie.
